SWM G01 is a compact five-seater SUV launched by SWM Motors, a subsidiary of Shineray Group.

SWM G01 is positioned as a large five-seater compact SUV. As the first model launched by the brand based on the "G Platform", the historical tag of this series is a milestone for SWM's transformation towards "Youthful Sportiness". Its key selling points lie in the "Knight's Arrow" exterior styling integrating European design elements, wheelbase performance (2,750 mm) that surpasses traditional compact SUVs in the same class, and the factory sport kit (SWM G01 F Edition) launched for the passionate youth group. This series focuses on high cost-performance, personalized exterior, and spacious rear longitudinal space.
The birth of SWM G01 marked the brand's entry into the independent R&D platform stage. In March 2018, the series had its global premiere in Milan, Italy, and officially launched in the Chinese market in August of the same year, initially equipped with 1.5T turbocharged engines across the entire range.
In order to further cater to the pursuit of "sporty appearance" by Chinese young consumers, SWM launched a sport version—SWM G01 F—in 2019. This version successfully attracted young consumers in the lower-tier markets by adding wide-body kits, dual exhaust tips styling, and high-gloss black sport grilles. Since then, the series has maintained a pace of annual minor facelifts, and launched configuration tweak models such as Youth Edition and Glory Edition between 2022 and 2024, extending the product lifecycle by further lowering the price threshold (main price range maintained at 70,000 to 110,000 RMB).
In the Chinese compact SUV market, SWM G01 served as a sales pillar for the brand, contributing the early major market share for SWM. However, with top brands (such as BYD, Geely, Changan) fully pursuing hybridization and erupting price wars in the entry-level market, the survival space of the pure fuel SWM G01 in the Chinese market was strongly squeezed. As of 2026, the series' monthly sales in China have been hovering at a low level. However, relying on Shineray Group's global channel network, SWM G01 has demonstrated strong export resilience in overseas developing markets in South America (e.g., Ecuador, Chile), the Middle East (e.g., Iran), and Central Asia, with the export volume share of total brand sales increasing year by year.
In terms of body size, SWM G01 adopted a "long wheelbase, short overhang" space optimization design, with length, width, and height being 4,610 mm, 1,855 mm, 1,725 mm respectively (due to the sport kit, the F Edition length extends to 4,670 mm), and wheelbase reaching 2,750 mm, which provided it with rear legroom approaching mid-size SUVs.
In terms of powertrain and transmission configuration:
Engine Technology: The entire series is equipped with a 1.5-liter inline-four turbocharged engine, model DG15T. The engine adopts multi-point fuel injection technology, with maximum output power of 115 kW (approx. 156 horsepower), capable of steady outputting 220 Nm peak torque within the 2,000 to 4,200 rpm speed range.
Transmission System: Two options are provided, 6-speed manual transmission (6MT) and 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) (early model years used 6-speed automatic transmission), with WLTC combined fuel consumption per 100 km approximately between 7.6L and 8.2L.
Regarding chassis suspension, the vehicle adopts a front-engine front-drive layout, with suspension structure being traditional front MacPherson independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension. Against the background of many models in the same price range using rear torsion beam non-independent suspension, its four-wheel independent suspension structure became a major technical sincerity. In terms of digital configuration, the car is equipped with a 10-inch central screen and 7-inch LCD instrument cluster, supporting basic phone connectivity and 4G network.
With the global automotive industry transitioning to low carbon, the technology iteration of the SWM G01 pure fuel version has basically stopped, and the focus of future work will fully shift towards "overseas compliance modification" and "new energy". SWM plans to equip its overseas export versions with stricter European emission and safety regulation components while maintaining the existing body architecture. Meanwhile, parent company Shineray Group is considering transplanting its intelligent hybrid or range-extender powertrains to this platform, and it is expected to launch a low-cost hybrid G01 in the future, thereby re-entering the niche market of pragmatic new energy SUVs.
