Soueast DX7 (DX7 Bolang / Prime / Xingyue)

2026-09-23 03:10:02

The Soueast DX7 stands as the most epoch-making C-segment SUV in Soueast Motor’s history. Serving as a landmark model that spearheaded the brand's "Passenger Vehicle Refinement Strategy", the DX7's defining hallmark is its bespoke styling penned entirely by world-renowned Italian design house Pininfarina, seamlessly uniting international fluid aesthetics with Chinese automotive value-for-money. Across its lifecycles, the DX7 consistently relied on robust Mitsubishi-derived powertrains. Beyond achieving an impressive domestic sales record of over 10,000 units monthly, it became an enduring export pillar for Soueast Motor, reaching more than 30 countries and regions across South America, the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Following Chery's full acquisition and integration of Soueast Motor in 2024, the strategic platform behind the DX7 has effectively passed the baton to a new generation of Chery-engineered product architectures, concluding a legendary chapter.

Model Overview

Positioned as a premium, value-driven urban C-segment SUV, the Soueast DX7 has consistently maintained an attractive official price bracket ranging from RM89,900 to RM139,900 . Its key competitive edge in the segment is unmistakable: offering a Pininfarina-sculpted, class-transcending 1,900 mm wide body, a front and rear independent suspension setup delivering solid, European-like ride composure, and a potent Mitsubishi-derived turbocharged engine—all undercutting rival price points. It precisely caters to pragmatic urban and suburban family buyers seeking distinctive international design, proven mechanical durability, and expansive lateral cabin space.

Development History

From its debut boasting bespoke Pininfarina styling to its revamped era of intelligent driving, the lifecycle of the Soueast DX7 encapsulates the upward evolution of Chinese boutique SUVs:

"Pininfarina Gemini" Aesthetic Breakthrough (2015–2017): Unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show in late 2014, the model officially debuted in 2015 as the "DX7 Bolang". Its fluidic sculpted exterior, derived from the Soueast R7 concept, was penned directly by Pininfarina, decisively breaking away from the derivative styling trends typical of Chinese cars at the time. Its 1,900 mm wide-body five-seater cabin instantly established its market reputation.

"DX7 Prime" Refinement & Powertrain Evolution (2018–2019): The mid-life facelift adopted the moniker DX7 Prime. The front fascia featured an aggressive "eagle-wing" grille, while the cabin introduced a floating central display and an electronic gear shifter for the first time. Alongside the staple 1.5T unit, a punchier Mitsubishi 1.8T (4K10) turbocharged engine was introduced, paired with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT), substantially lifting the vehicle's premium appeal.

"DX7 Xingyue" Tech-Driven Finale (2020–2024): The DX7 underwent its most extensive makeover, badged as the Soueast DX7 Xingyue. It gained a futuristic starry matrix grille, while the entire range was upgraded to the Mitsubishi-derived 1.5T (4A95TD) direct-injection engine (197 hp). It also introduced Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), an automated parking assist, and a 540° HD panoramic camera view, firmly cementing its status as a mature, tech-laden, full-sized SUV offering.

Full Integration under the Chery Era (2025 onwards): Heading into the 2025–2026 strategic cycle, Chery, China's leading automotive exporter, completed its strategic 100% acquisition of Soueast Motor. Soueast has since been repositioned as a core pillar in Chery's global export drive and new energy vehicle (NEV) transition, highlighted by the rollout of Chery-based next-generation S07 and S09 models across Egypt, the Middle East, and other global markets. The proven DX7 ICE platform completed a smooth operational transition, with its extensive distribution network and brand goodwill now forming a sturdy foundation for Soueast's new CKD assembly and electrified vehicle offensive across over 140 global retail outlets.

Market Performance

The Soueast DX7 served as a formidable player during the golden boom of Chinese SUVs, establishing a massive domestic customer base and robust supply chain ecosystem. In overseas markets, the Soueast DX7 nameplate achieved widespread traction across key emerging territories. In core Latin American and North African markets like Egypt, Ecuador, and Peru, the DX7 became a go-to choice for middle-class first-time SUV buyers, underpinned by its proven Mitsubishi engine that runs reliably on varied fuel qualities, stylish Pininfarina aesthetics, and rugged chassis. In multiple developing markets, strong residual value and low servicing costs per kilometre made the DX7 a standout example of Chinese marques taking the fight directly to Korean incumbents like the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage.

Core Technology

Dimensionally, the Soueast DX7 / Xingyue delivers commanding proportions with its wide-body profile. Measuring 4,570 mm long, 1,905 mm wide, and 1,720 mm tall, with a generous 2,700 mm wheelbase, it stands out with a class-leading width of 1,905 mm and a broad 1,601 mm front and rear track. This setup provides a planted stance and low visual centre of gravity, while yielding generous lateral shoulder room throughout the cabin.

Key technical specifications covering powertrain, dimensions, and chassis hardware are outlined below:

High-Efficiency Mitsubishi Powertrain (Front-Wheel Drive / FWD):

1.5T Direct-Injection Engine: The latest Xingyue variant is powered by a Mitsubishi-derived 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder direct-injection petrol engine (4A95TD). It pushes out a robust 145 kW (approx. 197 PS / hp) and 285 Nm of torque.

Transmission: Mated to a Getrag 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT). This drivetrain delivers strong power reserves, responsive 0-100 km/h acceleration, and commendable fuel efficiency, returning an official combined consumption of approximately 7.1 L/100 km while running reliably on standard RON 92 unleaded petrol.

Rigid European-Tuned All-Round Independent Suspension:

Equipped with front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent setup, accompanied by subframes and front/rear anti-roll bars. Co-developed with international chassis engineering specialists, the suspension provides substantial body rigidity and road absorption. Whether tackling city road humps, unpaved surfaces, or long-distance highway cruising, the chassis effectively filters road harshness while maintaining excellent roll control and ride refinement.

Spacious and Practical 5-Seater Cabin:

Configured as a standard 5-seater, the cabin benefits from an elongated flat roofline and wide 1,905 mm body. A virtually flat second-row floor allows three adults to sit comfortably across without feeling cramped. With 60:40 split-folding rear seats, standard boot space of 456 L expands to a cavernous 1,529 L flat-floor luggage area, effortlessly handling bulky cargo or weekend camping gear.

Inside, the DX7 features extensive dual-tone soft-touch leather trim. The cockpit is anchored by a 7-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 10-inch HD floating central touchscreen . The infotainment suite fully integrates online navigation, 4G connected services, AI-driven voice commands, and Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates.

The DX7 is equally generous with comfort and safety amenities, featuring a standard 62-inch panoramic glass roof and high-capacity climate control. Structurally, it employs a reinforced safety cage constructed with over 60% high-strength steel. Standard safety equipment across the range includes all-round disc brakes, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), dual front SRS airbags, and an active safety suite comprising ABS, EBD, ESC, and TCS . Higher variants add a 540° transparent chassis camera display and a full suite of Level 2 ADAS active safety features. Built on honest mechanical craftsmanship, the Soueast DX7 delivers dependable protection for motorists worldwide.

Future Plans

Following its integration into Chery Group's global footprint, the Soueast brand is accelerating its shift toward electrification and intelligent mobility. Over the next two years, aided by Chery's Kunpeng plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains and next-gen smart cockpit platforms (powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155/8015 chipsets), Soueast's export product lineup across the Middle East, North Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia will transition to its new-generation premium SUV range, led by the Soueast S07 and S09 series. Leveraging an expanding network of localised CKD assembly hubs, the DX7’s longstanding reputation for rugged reliability will provide a strong springboard for Chery-backed Soueast models to deliver high-value, tech-forward mobility solutions in the global SUV market.
