ZOEMO Motorhome

2026-10-04 12:10:01

ZOEMO is a premier Chinese luxury motorhome and commercial vehicle marque under Zhongou International Group, a diversified multinational conglomerate founded in 1989. Officially established in 2005, the brand specialises in the R&D and manufacturing of bespoke Zhongou Mercedes-Benz luxury commercial vehicles, motorhomes, and special-purpose vehicles, standing as a pioneer in domestic bespoke vehicle conversions. The marque's parent company was officially listed on the Shanghai Equity Exchange in 2015. Its flagship model line—Zhongou Mercedes-Benz motorhomes—is jointly developed by the Zhongou Automotive Research Institute, Mercedes-Benz Germany, and German manufacturer Hymer, seamlessly combining Mercedes-Benz’s engineering DNA with Hymer’s human-centric ergonomics and exacting coachbuilding craftsmanship. Tailored to local lifestyle preferences and aesthetic tastes, Zhongou also enlists professional designers to ensure every motorhome truly serves as a "luxurious, cosy home on wheels". The brand has since garnered numerous prestigious accolades, including "China Well-Known Trademark" and "Shanghai Famous Trademark".

Development History

The diversification of Zhongou International Group dates back to 1989, when founder Wu Guolin (a native of Ruian, Zhejiang) established a solid commercial footprint centred in Shanghai, leveraging extensive industrial experience in the automotive component sector. In 2005, capitalising on the early emergence of China’s motorhome industry, the group established its Zhongou Motorhome division, becoming one of the earliest players to venture into specialised motorhome manufacturing. To swiftly acquire core competencies in premium motorhome development, the Zhongou Automotive Research Institute forged deep technical partnerships with Mercedes-Benz Germany and Hymer to develop premium motorhomes built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, becoming the first domestic coachbuilder to secure complete vehicle manufacturing homologation under the official "motorhome" category from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

In January 2008, the first batch of five Zhongou Mercedes-Benz motorhomes rolled off the assembly line in Shanghai and were delivered, marking the official takeoff of an all-new independent marque in the high-end motorhome segment. With an indicative price of RM988,000, the model had already secured over 200 confirmed bookings and letters of intent prior to its initial rollout. In March 2010, Zhongou held simultaneous vehicle handover ceremonies across Hainan, Wenzhou, and Shandong, further cementing its brand presence in East and South China. In April 2018, the marque introduced an industry-first "Smart Health" motorhome concept, integrating a big-data health platform with a premium cabin environment, spearheading the industry's evolution from standard "safe travel" into an intelligent "Smart Healthy Travel 4.0" ecosystem. Since 2024, Zhongou International Group has accelerated its strategic shift from traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) motorhomes to new energy vehicles (NEVs). As of May 2026, Zhongou Motorhome stands as one of the few domestic manufacturers possessing full-stack bespoke coachbuilding capabilities whilst delivering mass-produced hybrid light trucks and battery electric motorhomes.

Brand Matrix / Product Line

Guided by its core strategy of "three-pronged parallel development", Zhongou Motorhome has established a comprehensive product portfolio spanning bespoke custom builds, mid-range mass production, and stationary campsite caravans. The first arm is its 500-mu Changshu plant in Jiangsu, housing six international-standard conversion lines dedicated to the custom R&D and assembly of luxury commercial vehicles and motorhomes, serving as the primary manufacturing hub for the core Zhongou Mercedes-Benz lineup. The second arm comprises the 200-plus-mu Tieling facility in Liaoning, which focuses on producing mid-range motorhome variants catering to the broader mass market. The third arm is the 1,000-mu Huai'an Zhongou Industrial Park in Jiangsu, which integrates Zhongou Aircraft, Zhongou General Aviation, Zhongou Automotive Electronics, and a dedicated caravan production facility for the in-house development of towable travel trailers.

In terms of product offerings, the Zhongou Mercedes-Benz lineup has consistently utilised the genuine German-imported Sprinter chassis as its backbone, categorised into four core series: Pop-top Series, Motorhome Series, Business Series, and Executive Tourer Series. Key offerings include the Zunbo Series ("Zunbo Business A" and "Zunbo Executive Tourer C", covering the 2011 models and subsequent facelifts); the Zunyi Executive Tourer Series, offering a six-berth sleeping capacity with an optimised, expandable cabin layout; the ViVoT Series (powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission), pushing out 211 hp with a retail price held around RM988,000, tailored specifically for executive business travel; the Zunshi Series, equipped with sophisticated safety systems like intelligent cabin lighting and carbon monoxide monitoring, alongside an uprated chassis featuring an anti-roll bar and air suspension to significantly elevate long-distance ride comfort; as well as the Vilarade, Sprinter, and Vidales nameplates, renowned for their blend of travelling refinement and flexible, modular interior layouts.

On the new energy front, Zhongou successfully homologated the Oulv Plug-in Hybrid Motorhome (Model ZCL5051XLJCHEV), based on the FAW Jiefang Tiger VN light truck platform. With an overall length neatly contained within 5.995 metres, it can be driven on a standard Class C driving licence. Motivated by a dedicated Jiefang Power CA4DB1-E68 hybrid powertrain mated to a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) traction battery, it is among the select few hybrid motorhomes qualifying for green number plates, exempt from urban traffic restrictions, and completely free from range anxiety.

Market Performance

In 2024, the Chinese motorhome industry entered a pivotal phase defined by "niche consolidation for motorhomes and rapid growth for campervans". According to local registration statistics, annual registrations of motorized motorhomes hit 13,258 units in 2025, marking a 12.87% year-on-year increase compared to 2024; campervan registrations surged to 7,376 units, logging a remarkable 85.61% year-on-year spike. This robust market growth and surging NEV adoption fueled a significant uptick in orders for Zhongou Motorhome between 2024 and 2026.

In corporate fleet acquisitions and B2B partnerships, the marque has demonstrated exceptional fleet delivery capabilities. In December 2024, Zhongou Motorhome inked a strategic agreement with the Gansu Culture and Tourism Operation Group for an initial fleet deployment of 200 new energy motorhomes, with provisions to scale up according to market demand. By March 2025, the inaugural fleet of new energy motorhomes was officially flagged off from the Changshu assembly plant in Jiangsu to Gansu Culture and Tourism, marking the brand’s large-scale commercial rollout in the corporate tourism sector.

Core Technologies

The entire Zhongou Motorhome range is anchored on proven Mercedes-Benz chassis engineering, complemented by proprietary advances in coachbuilding and vehicle integration. This creates a refined technical ecosystem blending German build standards, Chinese artisanal innovation, and smart telematics.

The Sino-German technical collaboration forms the cornerstone of Zhongou Motorhome. The chassis architecture relies heavily on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter platform, while the living module incorporates Hymer’s efficient interior packaging, lightweight composite partitioning, and precision acoustic and thermal sealing techniques. The Zhongou Automotive Research Institute houses a dedicated R&D centre spanning nearly 20,000 square metres, equipped with comprehensive pilot-build production lines. In 2018, Zhongou debuted its pioneering Smart Health Motorhome concept, seamlessly embedding health data platforms and predictive analytics into the cabin, enabling real-time vitals monitoring, remote telemedicine consultations, and telematics trip analysis.

In the electrified powertrain sector, the brand rolled out the Oulv Hybrid Motorhome (ZCL5051XLJCHEV) in 2022, representing a major technical leap over conventional pure ICE platforms. The electric propulsion system features a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) supplied by CRRC Zhuzhou Electric, paired with high-safety Mengguli LFP battery modules and a dedicated Jiefang Power CA4DB1-E68 hybrid engine. This setup secures green vehicle registration privileges, bypasses road access restrictions, and eliminates EV range anxiety. Safety credentials feature tier-one automotive supplier systems, including standard ABS, ESP, and EBD, alongside an intelligent earth-leakage circuit breaker. The interior utilizes certified E0-grade eco-friendly composite boards, complemented by marine-grade, heavy-duty anti-slip flooring.

Overseas Footprint

Zhongou Motorhome actively executes its international expansion strategy, establishing a strong reputation across global RV markets via close engagements with international caravan federations and platforms like Caravan Salon Düsseldorf. While the company has yet to establish overseas assembly facilities, its export operations are driven primarily through CBU (Completely Built-Up) shipments. Preliminary data indicates that Zhongou has successfully shipped units to Germany, Australia, the Middle East, and parts of Central Asia, though export volumes relative to total production remain in an expansionary phase.

Highlighting the growing acceptance of Chinese coachbuilders, an RV manufacturer in Rizhao, China, completed an export batch of 20 units directly to Germany in June 2024, demonstrating that Chinese bespoke motorhomes can comfortably comply with strict European type-approval standards. Leveraging All in CARAVANING (AIC)—the Chinese satellite exhibition of Caravan Salon Düsseldorf—and through its annual Sino-European Electric and Hybrid Motorhome Technology Symposium, Zhongou has successfully extended its technical collaborations to mature automotive markets across Europe and Australasia.

Future Outlook

Zhongou Motorhome’s roadmap is firmly aligned with electrification and connected smart mobility. The engineering division continues to refine its new energy motorhome architecture based on the Jiefang hybrid light truck chassis, targeting mass production and rollout of second-generation iterations by 2026. On the global stage, the marque plans to maintain an active presence at major international motorhome shows, presenting next-generation NEV concept models and smart towable caravans to boost its worldwide brand profile. Long-term, Zhongou aims to deploy a multi-track powertrain strategy comprising pure electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and hydrogen fuel cell technologies by 2027, accelerating its global market penetration to establish itself as a premier global player in luxury motorhomes and commercial vehicles.

Bolstered by supportive local policies promoting overland travel, road trips, and glamping, China's domestic motorhome market is experiencing sustainable growth. Anchored by Mercedes-Benz-calibre coachbuilding quality, a forward-looking electrification roadmap, and a comprehensive multi-segment portfolio, Zhongou Motorhome is well-positioned to evolve beyond the conventional "manufacturing and sales" business model over the next five years, emerging as an influential global pioneer in smart mobility, green living, and tech-driven nomadic lifestyles.
