Great Wall Motor (GWM) has brought the newly launched Tank 300 HEV to KLIMS 2026 for its official capital debut. First introduced at the Penang Motorshow, this new petrol-electric hybrid model expands the rugged 4x4 lineup alongside the standard internal combustion engine (ICE) variant, which has achieved over 1,000 unit sales locally since its market introduction in July 2024.

The hybrid model is priced at RM 259,800 on-the-road without insurance. The non-hybrid Tank 300 is priced at RM 250,000.

The core highlight of the Tank 300 HEV is its high-output petrol-electric powertrain. The system pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine developing 245 PS and 380 Nm of torque with an electric motor generating 106 PS and 268 Nm, backed by a 1.67-kWh ternary lithium battery.

Managed by a nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission—stepping up from the ICE variant's eight-speed unit—the hybrid setup generates a massive combined output of 346 PS and 648 Nm of torque. This significantly eclipses the standard petrol model’s output metrics of 220 PS and 380 Nm.

To handle serious terrain, the HEV is equipped with a full-time four-wheel-drive system featuring electronically locking front and rear differentials. Its off-road assistance suite includes a specialized tank turn function, crawl control, and an all-terrain progress system with seven selectable modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand, and a low-range 4L setting.

This configuration alters the drive selector layout by omitting the 2H and 4H settings found on the nine-mode ICE version. Mechanical off-road metrics remain intact, retaining identical approach, ramp, and departure angles of 33, 23, and 34 degrees, alongside a 700-mm maximum water wading depth and a 66% maximum climbing gradient capability.

Aesthetically, the hybrid model introduces a variant-exclusive Sand Beige paint finish alongside classic Pearl White and Crystal Black options, riding on 17-inch blacked-out alloy wheels wrapped in rugged all-terrain tyres. Consequently, the signature orange body color and 18-inch two-tone wheels remain exclusive to the standard petrol version.

Inside, the premium cabin configuration carries over, offering dual-zone automatic air conditioning with rear passenger vents, powered front seats with built-in driver's seat massage functionality, faux Nappa leather upholstery, a 64-color ambient lighting network, a glass sunroof, and a nine-speaker Infinity premium audio setup with full Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Technology and convenience receive a notable bump on the HEV variant via the addition of a localized smartphone app ecosystem and an automated parking assistant. The smart vehicle application allows owners to remotely lock or unlock doors, roll up windows, operate the sunroof, activate the climate control, and trigger front seat ventilation. It also monitors vehicle metrics in real-time, displaying tyre pressures and temperatures, overall mileage, remaining driving range, fuel levels, 12V battery health, and real-time vehicle positioning.

Safety hardware mirrors the high standards of the petrol model, utilizing six airbags and a full Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package that includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and adaptive cruise control (ACC).

For the Malaysian market, the Tank 300 HEV is bundled with an extensive warranty structure. First-hand private buyers receive a lifetime warranty on the engine and transmission, complemented by an eight-year or 180,000 km warranty on the high-voltage battery pack.

The vehicle and hybrid system itself are covered by a six-year, unlimited-mileage factory warranty, alongside five years of complimentary scheduled maintenance (parts and labor inclusive) and a five-year subscription for Level 2 vehicle telematics.
