KLIMS 2026: Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Officially Launched in Malaysia at RM 443,888

Hyundai N Now Has a Malaysian Price Tag

Hyundai Motor Malaysia used KLIMS 2026 to move its N performance story from aspiration to official local availability. The IONIQ 5 N and IONIQ 6 N have both been launched in Malaysia, bringing Hyundai's electric performance sub-brand into the country with confirmed pricing, authorised dealer channels and a built-to-order sales model. For the IONIQ 5 N, the official retail price is RM 443,888.

This immediately defines its role. The IONIQ 5 N is not meant to replace the regular IONIQ 5 as the rational family EV, nor is it designed to compete with value-led Chinese electric SUVs on price. It is Hyundai's local electric performance statement, created to show that an EV can be judged not only by range, silence and cabin technology, but also by feedback, braking confidence, thermal management and repeatable performance.

Born in Namyang, Validated at Nürburgring

The N brand is built around more than a power increase. Hyundai frames it through three pillars: Corner Rascal, Everyday Sports Car and Race Track Capability. In practical terms, an N model is expected to enjoy corners, switch between daily usability and serious driving, and cope with track use without requiring additional tuning. That philosophy is shaped at Hyundai's Namyang R&D Centre in Korea and validated at the 20.8 km Nürburgring Nordschleife, with experience from Hyundai's World Rally Championship programme feeding into the road-car approach.

The IONIQ 5 N is the first major electric expression of that idea. Its global credentials include the 2024 World Performance Car title, but its Malaysian launch gives the car a different significance. At KLIMS 2026, it is not merely a high-powered EV on display. It is the point where Hyundai N becomes a formal part of the Malaysian performance-car conversation.

650 PS With Practical Range

The IONIQ 5 N uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 650 PS when N Grin Boost is engaged. Hyundai quotes 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and a 260 km/h top speed. The 84 kWh battery supports high-power DC charging, with global Hyundai N data listing a 10-80% charge time of around 18 minutes under suitable conditions. For Malaysia, HMY lists a WLTP range of 448 km.

The 3,000 mm wheelbase also matters. This is still a five-door crossover with usable rear-seat and cargo space, not a two-seat weekend machine. That makes the IONIQ 5 N more relevant to Malaysian buyers who may want a serious performance EV but still need the car to function on family drives, daily commutes and intercity trips. It is a track-capable crossover rather than a stripped-out special.

N Technology Gives It a Different Character

Key N systems include N e-Shift, N Active Sound+, N Drift Optimiser, N Grin Boost, N Torque Distribution and N Launch Control. N e-Shift is Hyundai's system that simulates the feel of an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission in an EV, while N Active Sound+ adds sound feedback through internal and external speakers. These features may look theatrical, but their purpose is to give the driver reference points that many high-output EVs lack.

For drivers moving from petrol performance cars, rhythm, sound and torque delivery are not cosmetic. They help define confidence. The IONIQ 5 N does not try to become a combustion car, but it does use software and chassis control to rebuild part of that communication. N Drift Optimiser, N Torque Distribution and N Launch Control further separate it from a regular fast EV by giving the driver ways to tune how the car behaves.

The Local Market Test

At RM443,888, the IONIQ 5 N will be a niche product in Malaysia. Its job is not volume. Its job is to raise Hyundai's credibility in an EV market where Chinese brands now create much of the noise around price, equipment and digital interfaces. Hyundai is using N to argue that legacy manufacturers still hold an advantage in vehicle dynamics, durability testing and performance development.

Bookings can be made through authorised Hyundai N dealers, including Sime Darby Auto Hyundai Sdn Bhd for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Goh Brothers Motor Sdn Bhd in Penang, and Heng Lian Enterprise Bhd in Kuching, with more dealer locations to be announced. Because the IONIQ 5 N is built to order, delivery clarity, trained high-voltage service support and transparent aftersales handling will matter almost as much as the performance figures themselves.
