KLIMS 2026: Hyundai IONIQ 6 N Launched in Malaysia at RM 449,888

A Lower, Sharper Hyundai N EV

Hyundai Motor Malaysia launched the IONIQ 5 N and IONIQ 6 N together at KLIMS 2026, with the IONIQ 6 N officially priced at RM 449,888. Like its crossover sibling, it is offered on a built-to-order basis. If the IONIQ 5 N is the more versatile electric performance crossover, the IONIQ 6 N is the lower, sleeker and more precision-focused alternative. It is not an appearance package for the regular IONIQ 6, but a full N-developed electric performance sedan.

That positioning gives it a distinct place in Malaysia. Much of the local EV conversation revolves around SUV space, range-per-ringgit comparisons and digital cabin features. Few models lead with sedan proportions, aerodynamic work and track-bred tuning. The arrival of the IONIQ 6 N means Hyundai is not only bringing the N brand into Malaysia; it is also bringing a different body language to the performance-EV segment.

650 PS, But a Different Character

The IONIQ 6 N uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and produces 650 PS when N Grin Boost is engaged. Hyundai quotes 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and a 257 km/h top speed. Compared with the IONIQ 5 N, it is quicker to 100 km/h, lower in stance and based on the IONIQ 6 Streamliner platform. HMY lists a WLTP range of 487 km, giving it usable long-distance capability alongside its performance brief.

Hyundai also highlights a 0.27 Cd drag coefficient. This is more than a styling claim. It explains why the IONIQ 6 N plays a different role from the IONIQ 5 N. The crossover uses its body to provide space and everyday versatility. The sedan uses lower proportions, smoother airflow and greater high-speed stability to appeal to drivers who care more about stance, response and fast-corner confidence.

N Engineering on the Streamliner Platform

Hyundai describes the IONIQ 6 N as a high-performance model built on the IONIQ 6 Streamliner platform, and the car carries the 2026 World Performance Car title in HMY's launch material. It follows the N development path shaped at Namyang and validated at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, while drawing from the same motorsport mindset that underpins Hyundai's WRC programme. The point is that the IONIQ 6 N is not trying to look sporty first. It is meant to behave like an N car.

The chassis story is especially important. HMY notes that the IONIQ 6 N uses stroke-sensing Electronically Controlled Suspension, also available in the IONIQ 5 N. The value of such a system is not simply stiffness. It is the ability to manage body movement across different roads and driving loads. That matters in Malaysia, where a performance EV has to cope not only with smooth highways and track use, but also urban ramps, uneven surfaces and long-distance fatigue.

Software Rebuilds Driver Communication

Although HMY's local launch text focuses on performance, range and suspension, the IONIQ 6 N belongs to Hyundai's wider electric N philosophy. N Grin Boost releases maximum output for short bursts, while N e-Shift and N Active Sound+ provide rhythm and audible feedback that many high-performance EVs otherwise lack. The purpose is not to turn the car into a petrol model. It is to give the driver more information when driving quickly.

This is where the IONIQ 6 N becomes more interesting than a simple acceleration figure. Traditional performance sedans draw their appeal from the relationship between body proportion, steering response, sound and power delivery. Electrification changes the power source, but Hyundai is trying to preserve that communication structure. The result is an EV that aims to feel lower, more stable and more deliberate than a typical fast electric car.

RM 449,888 Buys a Halo Product

At RM449,888, the IONIQ 6 N will address a small but clearly defined Malaysian audience: buyers who accept EVs but do not want electric performance to mean only a family SUV or a technology showcase. It will not be a volume driver for Hyundai. Its job is to lift the brand's technical image and make Malaysian buyers look again at what Hyundai can do in performance engineering.

Bookings are handled through authorised Hyundai N dealers, including Sime Darby Auto Hyundai Sdn Bhd for Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Goh Brothers Motor Sdn Bhd in Penang, and Heng Lian Enterprise Bhd in Kuching, with more locations to be announced. The real test will come after delivery. Buyers at this price level need speed, but they also need credible aftersales, clear maintenance processes and service teams that understand what an N model requires.
