From Naza to Stellantis: Peugeot Malaysia's Distributorship History

Jul 21, 2026
Share

Recently, claims have been circulating online that Peugeot has changed hands in Malaysia for the third time, with its distributorship allegedly reverting to Berjaya and Bermaz in July 2026.

In reality, this is a misunderstanding caused by confusion over the timeline.

In fact, Berjaya Auto Alliance Sdn Bhd (BAASB) took over the Peugeot distributorship from the Naza Group back in December 2020. The July 2026 report by The Edge Malaysia was simply an announcement regarding subsequent management appointments following that transition — not a new change in distributorship.

Today, Stellantis Malaysia remains the official distributor of Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia.

This article takes a closer look at Peugeot's distributorship history in Malaysia and clears up the confusion surrounding its ownership transitions.

The Complete Timeline of Peugeot's Distributorship in Malaysia

1. Cycle & Carriage (2002–2007)

Before Naza, Cycle & Carriage served as the exclusive distributor for Peugeot in Malaysia from 2002 to 2007. Cycle & Carriage is one of the oldest automotive retail groups in Malaysia, boasting a heritage of over 125 years.

2. Naza Group (2008–2020)

In 2008, Nasim, a subsidiary of Naza Group, took over the Peugeot franchise from Cycle & Carriage. For the next decade or so, Naza remained the exclusive distributor of the Peugeot brand in Malaysia.

3. Berjaya Auto Alliance (December 2020–June 2021)

On 1 December 2020, Groupe PSA officially appointed Berjaya Auto Alliance Sdn Bhd (BAASB) as the exclusive distributor of Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia. BAASB is a joint venture owned 51% by Berjaya Corporation and 20% by Bermaz Auto.

As part of the distributorship transition, Citroën and DS Automobiles officially ceased new vehicle sales in Malaysia, although after-sales support and genuine parts supply continued for existing customers.

4. Bermaz Auto Alliance (Independent Operation: June 2021–February 2024)

In June 2021, Berjaya exited the BAASB joint venture, selling its 51% stake to Bermaz and other shareholders. Consequently, Bermaz assumed sole control of the Peugeot brand, renaming the company to Bermaz Auto Alliance (BAA).

During BAASB's tenure, Peugeot introduced several key models to the Malaysian market, including the all-new 2008, the facelifted 3008, and the Landtrek — Peugeot's first pickup truck in Malaysia. BAASB also rolled out a five-year free service package in an effort to strengthen the brand's appeal and boost Peugeot's local sales.

5. Stellantis Malaysia (February 2024–Present)

In 2021, Groupe PSA merged with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to form the Stellantis Group.

On 22 November 2023, Stellantis N.V. announced that it would directly manage its brand portfolio in Malaysia via its own National Sales Company. Stellantis Malaysia officially commenced operations on 1 March 2024, succeeding Bermaz Auto Alliance as the brand principal for Peugeot.

On 29 February 2024, Bermaz Auto Alliance officially announced the cessation of its Peugeot operations. BAA stated that sales and after-sales services had already begun transitioning to Stellantis Malaysia since December 2023.

For Existing Owners: Are the Warranty and Service Packages Still Valid?

This remains the most pressing concern for existing Peugeot owners.

The good news: the 5-year free service package remains intact.

When Bermaz Auto Alliance ceased operations in February 2024, BAA clarified that an agreement had been reached with Stellantis: existing owners can continue to utilise their 5-year free service package until the 5-year/100,000 km limit is reached. The remaining service jobs will be honoured by authorised dealers appointed by Stellantis.

For customer support or roadside assistance, Peugeot owners can contact Stellantis's customer centre at 1800-18-7852 or email customersupport.my@stellantis.com.

For Potential Buyers: Is it Safe to Buy a Peugeot Now?

For buyers considering a Peugeot, the direct operations under Stellantis Malaysia present several key factors to note.

1. Revisions to the Warranty and Service Policies

Peugeot Malaysia has revised its warranty structure for new vehicles:

Standard Warranty: 5 years/150,000 km (whichever comes first), comprising a 3-year manufacturer's warranty and a 2-year extended warranty.

Optional Extension: Owners can opt to extend the warranty up to 7 years/200,000 km, with prices starting from RM 895.

Regarding the 5-year free service package, Stellantis temporarily replaced it with a 7-year warranty upon taking over in early 2024, before reinstating the 5-year free service package in September 2024. The original package introduced during the BAA era in July 2022 (covering parts, labour, and lubricants with service intervals of 15,000 km or 12 months) continues in a modified format under Stellantis.

2. Expansion of the Dealer Network

Since taking charge in March 2024, Stellantis Malaysia has been actively growing Peugeot's dealership network. In August 2024, Cycle & Carriage signed a dealership agreement with Stellantis Malaysia, marking a return for the retail group which previously distributed the brand from 2002 to 2007.

By Q4 2024, Cycle & Carriage showrooms in Cheras and Batu Caves had commenced sales and display of Peugeot models. Stellantis aims to expand its network to 30 outlets by the end of 2024, including expansion into East Malaysia.

3. Key Considerations

Brand stability remains a concern that requires time to rebuild — The repeated changes in Peugeot's representation, from Naza to Berjaya + Bermaz and later to Stellantis, have made some consumers cautious about the brand's long-term stability in Malaysia.

Citroën and DS have exited the new car market — Both French brands have stopped selling new vehicles in Malaysia and now only provide after-sales support and parts supply for existing owners.

Recommendations

Peugeot’s distributorship in Malaysia has indeed gone through several changes over the years. However, July 2026 did not mark another ownership transfer — the report was actually a follow-up announcement regarding the management appointments after BAASB took over Peugeot’s distributorship in 2020, but it was mistakenly interpreted as a new change of distributor.

For Existing Peugeot Owners:

Verify the current status of your warranty and free service package.

Keep all service records and supporting documents.

Contact the Stellantis customer care hotline at 1800-18-7852 if you have any questions.

For Prospective Peugeot Buyers:

Understand the latest warranty structure—the standard coverage is now 5 years/150,000 km, extendable to 7 years/200,000 km for a fee.

Confirm the exact terms of the 5-year free service package—different terms may apply depending on the vehicle's purchase date.

Test drive and compare—evaluate the car against class competitors, rather than deciding solely on attractive promotions.

Stellantis' backing—as the world’s fourth-largest automotive group, direct operations under Stellantis should theoretically ensure better parts availability and technical support.

Final Thoughts

Peugeot’s history in Malaysia has been a rather eventful one. The transitions from Cycle & Carriage to Naza, then to Berjaya-Bermaz, and finally to direct representation by Stellantis, have inevitably raised questions among consumers.

However, the rumours of a "third change of hands" in July 2026 are unfounded. Stellantis Malaysia remains the sole distributor of the Peugeot brand locally. The transition to Berjaya Auto Alliance happened back in December 2020, not 2026.

For consumers, the key is to get the facts right, understand your ownership privileges, and do your research. While past transitions have caused some uncertainty, the direct backing of Stellantis—the world's fourth-largest automotive group—coupled with an expanding dealer network and the reinstatement of the 5-year warranty and free service package, are highly encouraging signs.

Do not let misinformation cloud your judgment, and do not write off a great car just because of historical shifts in brand distributorship.
