BYD previews flagship BYD Great Han sedan ahead of August Chengdu Auto Show debut

BYD has released the first official design sketches of its upcoming flagship sedan, the Great Han, ahead of its public debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show in August.

The images were shared by BYD Sales Division General Manager Lu Tian, providing the first official look at the brand's new flagship sedan. While BYD notes that the production model may feature minor styling revisions, the overall design gives a clear indication of what to expect.

The Great Han adopts BYD's latest Dragon Face design language, featuring a low-slung front end, slim LED lighting signatures and a wide, imposing stance befitting its flagship positioning.

A roof-mounted LiDAR unit is also visible in the design sketches, indicating that the sedan will be equipped with BYD's latest advanced driver assistance system.

Dimensionally, the Great Han measures 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,510 mm tall, while its 3,130 mm wheelbase makes it the largest sedan in BYD's Dynasty line-up to date.

From the side, the Great Han features a sleek fastback-like profile with long, flowing body lines, while the rear adopts a wide, planted stance that emphasises its premium positioning.

EV and PHEV variants confirmed

BYD has confirmed that the Great Han will be offered in both battery electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) forms, catering to buyers seeking either pure electric driving or extended long-distance capability.

The EV variants will utilise BYD's latest second-generation Blade Battery alongside the company's new ultra-fast charging technology.

According to preliminary specifications, the rear-wheel-drive EV will offer up to 1,008 km of CLTC driving range, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated for up to 880 km on the same cycle.

Final powertrain specifications are expected to be announced closer to the model's official launch.

Could it come to Malaysia?

BYD has rapidly expanded its global footprint over the past few years, including Malaysia, where its line-up now includes models such as the Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, Sealion 7, and M6.

While the company has yet to announce any export plans for the Great Han, the model is expected to play a key role as BYD's flagship sedan. Should a right-hand-drive version eventually be produced, markets such as Malaysia could become potential candidates.

More details, including the production-ready design, interior and full specifications, are expected to be revealed when the Great Han makes its official debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show this August.
