After Yangwang U9, now a Xiaomi SU7 has spotted in Malaysia

This seems to be the season of Mainland Chinese cars entering Malaysia. Earlier it was the Yangwang U9, and now, the Xiaomi SU7 has quietly arrived here. Threads user neilthexavier spotted this Gulf Blue example in Penang.

Now, let us preface this by mentioning that this is not a sign that the Xiaomi SU7 is launching in Malaysia (or is it?), but it’s likely a tourist that drove their own car into the country.

This particular Gulf Blue example of the Xiaomi SU7 wears a plate with the 皖J number plate, indicating that the car came all the way from Huangshan City, in Anhui, China.

In case you’re wondering, this particular Xiaomi SU7 isn’t the over-the-top SU7 Ultra, but rather the SU7 Max – one grade below. The biggest tell tale is the car’s colour – the SU7 Ultra isn’t offered in this colour, while the SU7 Max is.

Unlike its high-performance sibling, the SU7 Max doesn’t get the same tri-motor powertrain, relying instead on a dual-motor, AWD configuration that does 673 PS and 838 Nm. Its 101-kWh NMC battery pack is good for up to 800 km CLTC.

While the SU7 Max doesn’t offer the same performance credibility as the SU7 Ultra, it’s still properly quick – Xiaomi quotes a 0-100 km/h time of just 2.78 seconds, while top speed is rated at 265 km/h.

Could Xioami enter Malaysia officially?

Hang tight – there is a chance of Xiaomi entering Malaysia’s automotive scene in the near future.

A few weeks back, we were the first to report that Xiaomi Technology is hiring a Government Relations Manager, hinting that the company is serious about entering the country officially.

This position also requires said candidate to have a strong knowledge in government regulations, government policies, as well as CBU and CKD operations. Yes, CKD operations. Could Xiaomi opt for the CKD route when introducing its models here in the near future? Time will tell.
