Chery JAECOO's First Pure Electric Model Enters Malaysian Market

On September 2, Chery officially launched the JAECOO J5 EV in Malaysia — the first all-electric model from its JAECOO brand. The new vehicle offers a range of 461 km, with a starting price of RM118,800.

Like the petrol-powered JAECOO J5 launched in March, the new EV will also be assembled at Chery's Shah Alam plant. Chery currently operates two CKD plants in Malaysia, alongside a complete vehicle manufacturing facility that just commenced production this year.

JAECOO is a crossover/off-road SUV brand developed by Chery exclusively for overseas markets. Together with OMODA, which targets young, fashion-conscious customers, the two form the "twin stars" of Chery's international expansion.

In July, OMODA | JAECOO ranked fifth on Malaysia's vehicle sales chart, making it the best-selling Chinese brand in the country.
