Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has launched the 2026 Jaecoo J5 EV. Its launch comes roughly one and a half months after its preview back in mid-July.

The Jaecoo J5 EV is based on the petrol-powered J5, but replaces its turbocharged engine with a fully electric powertrain.
Priced from RM 118,800, the Jaecoo J5 EV is Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia's most affordable EV on sale.
Local assembly (CKD) will take place at Chery Corporate Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam.

The J5 EV gets a redesigned front end with a closed-off fascia, a smaller lower air intake and an active air shutter. It also features EV-specific 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels and a charging port on the front-left fender.

At the rear, the design remains largely similar to the petrol J5, although the EV loses the exhaust pipe and gains EV badging. It's also worth mentioning that the Jaecoo J5 EV's charging port is located on the driver side front fender.

It measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase.
Three colours will be available: Alpine Green, Fjord Grey and Carbon Crystal Black.

Inside, the J5 EV features a black faux leather cabin with contrasting blue piping and stitching. Said blue piping and stitching can be found on the steering wheel, seats, centre arm rest, and door cards.

Equipment includes, powered and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control and a panoramic glass roof.

The dashboard features an 8.88-iinch digital instrument display and a 13.2-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. A 50-watt wireless charging pad is also included.

The model retains its pet-friendly focus, with low-VOC materials and a Pet Mode that keeps the cabin temperature comfortable for animals when the vehicle is parked.

Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 155 kW (211 PS) and 288 Nm of torque.
The 58.9 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery provides a claimed WLTP range of up to 402 km (461 km NEDC). The J5 EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 175 km/h.

DC fast charging is supported at up to 130 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in about 28 minutes. The vehicle also supports up to 11 kW AC charging and 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.
Standard equipment includes:
The J5 EV also gets Camping Mode and a 35-litre front boot, or frunk.
