Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia has previewed the upcoming 2026 Jaecoo J5 EV ahead of its launch here in Q3 2026. The preview is happening at the Oh My Meow Expo 2026 – in-line with the model’s pet-friendly image.
Though the model is confirmed to be locally-assembled (CKD), prices are still not ascertained yet.

The Jaecoo J5 EV adopts similar changes like the Omoda 5 and Omoda E5 – the front-end has been completely overhauled, though the general shape remains as the petrol-powered J5.
Out goes the massive front grille found on the regular J5, as the J5 EV gets a completely shut off front fascia, with a small air intake nestled at the bottom. There’s also a panel that connects both headlights and houses the JAECOO wording. Situated on the bottom right of the front bumper is a small BEV emblem.

Changes towards the rear aren’t nearly as drastic – the Jaecoo J5 EV is largely identical to the ICE variant, barring for an additional EV emblem on the bottom right of the tailgate and the lack of an exhaust pipe.
Completing the exterior are a set of EV-specific wheels measuring 18 inches, wrapped in 235/55R18 tyres.

In the Jaecoo J5, the black-on-black interior is broken up by blue piping details across the seats and trim. Beyond that, it also gets a larger 10.25-inch digital driver display, replacing the regular J5’s 8.0-inch segmented LCD unit.
Beyond those changes, the interior of the J5 EV is largely identical to its ICE sibling including the TUV-certified, pet-friendly faux leather upholstery, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, ventilated first-row seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and automatic dual-zone climate control.

You may ask what's so 'pet friendly' about it and that's a fair question. The Jaecoo's cachet in that aspect mostly centres around its use of eco-friendly, low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) materials, but the bigger picture is that it comes with a 'Pet Mode'.

That's another word for a dedicated climate-control feature designed to keep your vehicle's cabin at a safe, comfortable temperature for animals when you are parked and away from the car.
Infotainment duties are backed by a 13.2-inch touchscreen unit with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, pushing audio through a six-speaker sound system. There’s also a 50W wireless phone charger.

Out goes the turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine, as it has been replaced by an electric motor that does 155 kW (211 PS) and 288 Nm, powered by a 58.9-kWh CATL LFP battery pack.
Under the WLTP test cycle, the Jaecoo J5 EV is able to return a claimed 402 km.
In terms of charging, DC fast charging goes up to 130 kW, which can get your battery from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes. AC charging is capped at 6.6 kW, and it also comes with Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) functionality.

Standard equipment of the 2026 Jaecoo J5 EV includes level 2+ ADAS with 19 features, including a 540-degree HD surround camera.
