BYD Yangwang U9X hits 503.17 km/h – first production car to break the 500 km/h barrier

The BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme (U9X) has set a new production-car speed record, reaching an officially certified 503.17km/h on Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway in Abu Dhabi on 6 November. It is the first production car to break the 500km/h barrier.

The latest run takes the electric supercar beyond its previous record of 496.22km/h, achieved at Germany's ATP test track in September 2025. That result had already put the U9X at the top of the production-car speed rankings, surpassing the records previously held by petrol-powered supercars.

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme is an exclusive, limited-production model, with just 30 units allocated worldwide.

Its performance credentials extend beyond straight-line speed. It has also completed a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes 59.157 seconds, making it the first production electric supercar to lap the circuit in under seven minutes.

With its latest 503.17km/h run, the U9 Xtreme has pushed the production-car speed record into new territory. The achievement is also a significant milestone for China's automotive industry and a high-profile demonstration of the performance potential of electric powertrains.
