Chery Tiggo Cross Sport Edition previewed in Malaysia, launching in October

Chery Malaysia has previewed the Tiggo Cross Sport Edition, confirming that the new variant will be launched in October. It will initially be available only with the turbocharged powertrain.

The Sport Edition is based on the existing Tiggo Cross Turbo, with most of the changes focused on the front and rear bumpers.

The front lower spoiler gets a more aggressive design, with additional winglets on both sides. At the rear, the lower bumper features a new diffuser-style trim with simulated exhaust outlets, while a Sport Edition badge has been added to the tailgate.

The lower body kit gives the Sport Edition a lower, sportier look compared with the standard model. The basic body shape remains unchanged, while the roof rails, rear spoiler and 18-inch wheels appear to be carried over.

Chery Malaysia has yet to reveal the full specifications of the Sport Edition.

As it is based on the Tiggo Cross Turbo, it is expected to use the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which produces 147 PS and 210 Nm and is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels.

However, Chery Malaysia has not said whether the Sport Edition gets any changes to the engine, suspension, wheels or interior.

For now, the confirmed changes are mainly cosmetic, with the new exterior kit giving the Tiggo Cross a sportier appearance. More details on the equipment, specifications and pricing will be announced at the official launch in October.

The Sport Edition also arrives as Chery Malaysia increases its involvement in sports and esports.

The brand recently sponsored the Lee Chong Wei Cup badminton tournament and became the official mobility partner of the KL Women Running Festival. It is also the official automotive partner of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Malaysia Season 18.

As part of MLBB's 10th anniversary celebrations, Chery has upgraded the prize for the Season 18 Legenda champion to a Tiggo Cross Sport Edition.

The new variant is therefore being introduced alongside a wider series of sports and esports activities by Chery Malaysia, with the Sport Edition serving as one of the cars used in these campaigns.

The Tiggo Cross Turbo is currently priced at RM 88,800, while the Tiggo Cross Hybrid costs RM 99,800. Both are on-the-road prices excluding insurance in Peninsular Malaysia. The price of the Tiggo Cross Sport Edition will be announced at launch in October.
