GATE 2026: Proton HEV showcased again, but where’s the FutureMotion name?

At the ongoing 2026 Global Automotive and Technology Expo (2026 GATE), Proton has showcased its upcoming HEV powertrain, as well as ADAS solutions and in-car infotainment systems.

Similar to the exhibition shown during the 2026 KLIMS, this is the second time Proton has showcased its upcoming petrol-electric hybrid powertrain solution. That said, this time around, the FutureMotion name that was shown at KLIMS was nowhere to be seen. Did Proton drop the name?

Here, the HEV pairs a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre BHE15 four-cylinder engine to a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) with P1 and P3 motors.

On the surface, it may seem similar to the engine found in the Proton Saga MC3, but it’s worth noting that the HEV system adopts the more efficient Atkinson cycle, and adopts water-cooler exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), electrically-powered alternator and air-cond compressor.

And yes, the HEV is similar to the one found in the Proton eMas 7 PHEV, though without the plug-in capabilities.

Apart from the HEV powertrain, Proton also showcased its ADAS solutions and infotainment systems.
