Geely begins international rollout of Monjaro EM-i with Egypt launch

Geely has officially launched its first global D-segment plug-in hybrid SUV, the Geely Monjaro EM-i (known as Xingyue L PHEV/EM-i in China). Egypt is the first market to receive the model, with plans to progressively expand into other overseas markets, including the Middle East, Latin America, and Central Asia.

Based on Geely's GEA Evo architecture, the Monjaro EM-i brings together a large SUV body, the latest EM-i hybrid system and a range of technology features aimed at overseas markets. Here's a closer look at what it offers.

Exterior design

The Monjaro EM-i adopts Geely's "Symphony of Time and Space" design theme, with clean, geometric lines replacing the more elaborate detailing seen on some SUVs.

Up front, there's a large vertical-slat grille flanked by slim headlights, while the side profile is kept clean. A full-width light bar runs across the tailgate, giving the rear a more modern look.

The SUV measures 4.8 metres long and has a 2,845 mm wheelbase, putting it firmly in the D-segment SUV class.

Interior & technology

Inside, the cabin is designed around a symmetrical layout, combining a clean, well-organised look with a more premium feel.

Hybrid power and performance

The Monjaro EM-i uses Geely's Thor EM-i Super Hybrid system, paired with a 1.5TD hybrid-specific engine. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.83 seconds, while fuel consumption with a depleted battery is rated at 5.4 litres/100km.

The SUV also gets an e-AWD electric four-wheel-drive system and CCD continuous damping control. The setup is designed to balance fuel economy, power delivery and ride comfort.

If the Monjaro EM-i eventually comes to Malaysia, its 4.8-metre length and spacious cabin, together with Geely's existing technology partnership with Proton and the EM-i hybrid system, could make it a strong competitor in the local large-SUV market.

For now, the Monjaro EM-i is starting its international rollout in Egypt, with more overseas markets to follow. If Malaysia is eventually on that list, it would give local buyers another option in the large plug-in hybrid SUV segment.
