Hyundai Motor has released its global sales figures for the third quarter and first nine months of 2026. The carmaker faced several challenges during the period, including prolonged labour strikes in South Korea, supply chain and logistics disruption due to tensions in the Middle East, and tougher competition in Europe and South America.
Despite the pressure, strong demand in North America and India, along with growing interest in hybrid vehicles, helped support sales. Hyundai's electrified models continued to gain ground, with hybrids emerging as a key contributor to the company's performance.

Hyundai sold 931,211 vehicles worldwide in the third quarter of 2026. Sales for the first nine months totalled 2,879,590 units, down 5.1% compared with the same period last year.

Electrified vehicles, including fully electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids (HEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), accounted for more than a quarter of Hyundai's global sales. Hybrid sales were particularly strong, rising 19% to 524,437 units worldwide. In North America, HEV sales surged by 56%.

North America
The region remained Hyundai's biggest growth market, with sales reaching a record 920,555 units in the first nine months, up 2.8% year on year. Models such as the Tucson and Elantra, alongside the growing popularity of hybrid vehicles, helped drive demand.
India
India recorded the strongest growth among Hyundai's key markets. Third-quarter sales rose by nearly 10% to 150,039 units, bringing the nine-month total to 444,301. The country is not only an important sales market for Hyundai but also a major export hub.
South Korea, China and Europe
Hyundai's domestic market came under pressure from prolonged labour strikes, with sales in South Korea falling 16% over the first nine months. In China and Europe, the company faced tougher competition from new market entrants and changing market conditions.

Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis also delivered a strong performance in the US, recording its best-ever third quarter with 22,645 vehicles sold, up 6% year on year. In August, Genesis also unveiled its new flagship electric SUV, the GV90.
Beyond its vehicle business, Hyundai is stepping up its work in Physical AI and autonomous driving. Its autonomous driving venture Motional is working with Uber to launch a driverless ride-hailing service in Las Vegas by the end of 2026, using the IONIQ 5 as its vehicle platform.
Hyundai is also working with Boston Dynamics to bring its Atlas humanoid robot into commercial production.

Looking further ahead, Hyundai is preparing one of the largest product expansion programmes in its history, with plans to launch more than 100 new or updated models by 2030.
The line-up will cover a wide range of powertrains and price segments, while the company continues to strengthen local production and supply chain operations to respond to changing conditions in global markets.
