Next-gen GWM Wey 07 revealed in China filing, could it be next for Malaysia?

The next-generation GWM Wey 07 from GWM WEY has appeared in China's latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) vehicle filing, revealing the model's exterior design, dimensions and powertrain details ahead of its official debut.

Known as the WEY 07 in overseas markets and the successor to the current WEY Lanshan, the new model is expected to further strengthen WEY's position in the premium new-energy vehicle segment.

Following the arrival of the GWM WEY G9 luxury plug-in hybrid MPV in Malaysia, this flagship SUV could become another important addition to GWM's local premium line-up if it eventually makes its way to our market.

Retro styling and flagship proportions

Up front, the new SUV features a prominent waterfall-style chrome grille flanked by distinctive retro-style round headlights, lending it an unmistakable road presence among today's increasingly similar-looking boxy SUVs.

The vehicle measures 5,140 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,960 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,010 mm.

The exterior features a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, powered side steps and three horizontal decorative trims on the C-pillars, adding to its upscale appearance.

Buyers will have a choice of five-seat and six-seat layouts, catering to both family users and business customers.

At the rear, the SUV continues its rugged theme with a rear-mounted spare wheel, commonly known as a backpack, together with a side-hinged tailgate.

The circular rear light design mirrors the front headlights, creating a consistent retro-inspired look while maintaining its off-road character.

Hi-4 plug-in hybrid system

Under the bonnet, the SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, paired with GWM's Hi-4 plug-in hybrid system. The engine produces 182 kW (247 PS), working in tandem with a 110 kW front motor and a 220 kW rear motor to deliver robust all-wheel-drive capability.

Energy is supplied by a 66.6 kWh battery pack, enabling a pure electric range of up to 402 km under CLTC test cycles, allowing most daily trips to be completed without using fuel.

The SUV is also expected to feature advanced driver-assistance technology and a high-performance computing platform, further aligning it with the latest premium EV trends.

A potential new flagship for WEY in Malaysia

GWM Malaysia has been expanding its multi-powertrain strategy, covering ICE, HEV, PHEV and BEV models, as the company continues to build a stronger presence in the local market.

With the WEY G9 luxury plug-in hybrid MPV already introduced in Malaysia, local customers are becoming more familiar with WEY's premium positioning and GWM's Hi-4 hybrid technology.

If launched locally, the WEY 07 would give Malaysian buyers another alternative in the growing premium electrified vehicle segment.
