Spied: Proton S70 MC2 spotted testing in Tanjung Malim with new front-end details

The second facelift of the Proton S70 (MC2) is still undergoing testing, with another camouflaged test car recently spotted around Tanjung Malim, Perak.

This time, the car was photographed from much closer than in previous sightings, giving us a better look at some of the changes to the front end.

Based on the latest spy shots, most of the changes to the S70 MC2 are concentrated around the front fascia. The overall shape of the headlights appears to carry over from the MC1, but the internal housing now appears to have a smoked-black finish, giving the front end a sportier look.

The grille has also been redesigned and is expected to feature a new horizontal trim arrangement, setting it apart from the current model. New air-intake details have also appeared on both sides of the front bumper.

The most obvious change along the sides is the wheels. The test car is fitted with a new multi-spoke alloy wheel design that bears some resemblance to classic BBS-style wheels.

The wheels are paired with bright red front and rear brake callipers, adding to the car's sportier appearance. It is not yet clear whether the red callipers will be exclusive to higher-spec versions.

The rear end is also expected to receive a more substantial update. Based on several earlier sets of spy shots, the S70 MC2 could adopt a full-width tail-light design similar to the latest Saga, with several angled LED light strips inside.

However, the rear of this particular test car remains heavily camouflaged. The final production design has yet to be confirmed.

The interior remains largely hidden for now. The test car is fitted with dark, low-transparency window film, making it impossible to see the cabin from outside.

Earlier reports suggested that the MC2 could get a larger infotainment screen and a redesigned centre-console storage area, although neither change has been confirmed.

The powertrain is not expected to change significantly. The turbocharged S70 MC2 should continue using the BHE15-EFZ 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 181 PS and 290 Nm.

It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and drives the front wheels.

This powertrain was only introduced with the S70 MC1 facelift in February this year, replacing the previous 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine. Output increased by 31 PS and 64 Nm over the old engine.

The MC2 update is expected to apply only to the turbocharged S70 for now. The naturally aspirated S70 Lite and Prime, which were launched on 22 September, are not expected to receive the same update.

This would give Proton a clearer distinction between the turbocharged and naturally aspirated versions, with differences in both styling and positioning.

There are also signs that the S70 MC2's exterior update could have been led by Proton's own design team. The S70's Chinese-market twin, the Geely Emgrand, has not received a corresponding facelift.

That suggests the MC2's styling changes are not simply being carried over from Geely, but could instead be a local design update developed specifically for the Malaysian market.

Proton has yet to announce when the S70 MC2 will go on sale or how much it will cost.

Based on the current testing programme, the car could make its official debut in the fourth quarter of 2026, although there is no confirmed date yet.

The current turbocharged S70 range, from Premium to Flagship X, is priced at RM 74,800 to RM 89,800 in Peninsular Malaysia, excluding insurance.

The MC2 is expected to remain within a similar price range, potentially with a modest adjustment. Both the estimated launch timing and pricing remain speculation based on the current testing progress and industry practice, rather than confirmed Proton information.
