Tesla Cybercab robotaxi launches in America, rumored for Asian showcase tour this month

On 4 September Kuala Lumpur time, the highly anticipated production version of Tesla's fully autonomous driverless EV — the Cybercab was finally launched, and has already commenced real-world operations in Austin, USA.

Completely redefining traditional automotive design, this futuristic vehicle does away with the steering wheel, pedals, and wing mirrors, aiming to maximise travel efficiency through pure automation.

Even more excitingly, industry sources suggest that the Cybercab could be heading to several Asian cities for a showcase tour starting in mid-September.

Cybercab Overview

In terms of exterior styling, the Cybercab features sleek Coupé silhouette. The front fascia sports a full-width LED light bar alongside futuristic headlights with projection technology.

The side profile exudes a dynamic stance, highlighted by its standout and stylish butterfly doors.

At the rear, it carries over the rugged DNA of its larger sibling, the Cybertruck, complete with an instantly recognisable full-width tail light cluster.

Inside, true to what Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously highlighted, the Cybercab completely ditches the traditional cockpit. There is no steering wheel, accelerator, or brake pedal, relying solely on Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system.

Additionally, the cabin features integrated seats with a segmented backrest and cushion design, accompanied by a retractable centre armrest and a central touchscreen, creating a spacious and minimalist cabin environment.

As for the powertrain and charging, the biggest highlight is the absence of a conventional charging port. The Cybercab is expected to rely entirely on wireless charging technology.

To top it off, the cabin is fitted with a robotic arm capable of automatically cleaning and tidying up the interior after passengers alight, ensuring fully intelligent end-to-end fleet operations.
