Zotye's Wink Y01, a small electric car developed specifically for overseas markets, has reached a new milestone, with the right-hand-drive (RHD) version rolling off the production line.
Measuring over 3.9 metres long, the electric hatchback is scheduled to enter full-scale production and begin deliveries in early 2027.

Founded in 2003, Zotye is a Chinese carmaker that first gained attention in its domestic market with affordable compact SUVs and eye-catching designs. It later expanded into new energy vehicles, launching several micro and small electric cars.
Following its restructuring, the company has shifted its focus towards overseas markets and new energy vehicles. Its strategy centres on developing right-hand-drive models for local markets and using a relatively asset-light assembly approach to expand in emerging markets across Southeast and South Asia.

The Wink Y01 RHD is part of that overseas expansion. Zotye has previously signed an agreement with an Indian partner to establish a KD (knock-down) assembly plant with an annual capacity of 30,000 vehicles. It has also entered into a strategic partnership with Indonesia's National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN).
Southeast Asia and South Asia are set to be its main target regions, with Indonesia and India among its priority markets. Zotye's longer-term ambition is to enter 55 countries worldwide, and it aims to sign distributor agreements in 25 countries by the end of 2026.
For markets such as Malaysia, where right-hand-drive vehicles are the norm, the Wink Y01 could offer another option in the small EV segment if it eventually goes on sale locally. However, Zotye has yet to confirm whether the model will be introduced in Malaysia.
