Ferrari SF90

2026-10-03 00:00:01

The Ferrari SF90 is the first series-production plug-in hybrid supercar unveiled by Italian supercar manufacturer Ferrari in May 2019. The name "SF90" pays tribute to the 90th anniversary of Scuderia Ferrari, underscoring the enduring close link between the Prancing Horse's motorsport lineage and its road cars. The SF90 comes in two body styles: the Stradale coupe and the Spider convertible, with the Stradale premiering in 2019 and the Spider launched in 2020. In 2022, Ferrari introduced the track-focused SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider, which further elevated the performance and aerodynamic capability of the standard models. In June 2026, Ferrari unveiled the SF90 XX Stradale 10th Anniversary Custom Edition in limited numbers worldwide.

Design Language

Penned by the Ferrari Styling Centre under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, the SF90's exterior introduces a futuristic design philosophy while retaining the Prancing Horse's signature design cues. The front fascia features C-shaped Matrix LED headlights with air intakes situated above them to channel airflow directly into the front wheel arches. An ultra-low bonnet profile enhances aerodynamic airflow management across the upper and lower surfaces of the car. The sleek, sculpted side profile and cab-forward layout embody the classic proportions of a mid-engine supercar. The rear is dominated by an active aerodynamic device known as the "Shut-off Gurney"—a patented system comprising a fixed element and a wedge-shaped mobile element that modulates automatically according to road speed, acceleration, and driver inputs to deliver high downforce during cornering and braking, or minimal drag on high-speed straights. The active aero setup allows the SF90 Stradale to generate up to 390 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. Its chassis and body structure utilise an all-new aluminium alloy and carbon-fibre architecture. The SF90 Stradale tips the scales at a dry weight of 1,570 kg, whilst the Spider adds roughly 100 kg due to the retractable roof mechanism. Inside, the cabin features a fully digital cockpit design, highlighted by a 16-inch curved HD full-digital instrument display. The steering wheel adopts an F1-inspired layout, integrating multiple physical controls and touchpads. The cabin is extensively trimmed in carbon fibre and premium leather.

Powertrain & Performance

The SF90 is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain that pairs a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with three electric motors. The 90° V8 engine delivers a maximum output of 780 cv, standing as the most powerful road-going V8 in Ferrari's history. Of the three electric motors, two are positioned on the front axle and work independently, while the third is mounted at the rear between the engine and the gearbox. Together, the powertrain delivers a massive combined output of 1,000 cv (around 986 hp). The century sprint from 0-100 km/h takes just 2.5 seconds, 0-200 km/h is achieved in 6.7 seconds, and top speed exceeds 340 km/h. The hardcore SF90 XX Stradale bumps the total output further to 1,030 hp. A 7.9 kWh battery pack provides a pure electric driving range of approximately 25 km. At Ferrari's Fiorano test track, the SF90 Stradale recorded a blistering lap time of 79 seconds, eclipsing the LaFerrari by a full second.

Chassis & Handling

Featuring a mid-engine, all-wheel-drive layout, the SF90 marks Ferrari's first-ever series-production mid-engine supercar equipped with an AWD system. The hybrid multi-material chassis incorporates carbon fibre and high-strength aluminium alloys to efficiently handle the extra mechanical loads from the new powertrain and AWD drivetrain. The suspension setup consists of double wishbones at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear. Electronic chassis control systems include Side Slip Control (SSC), an electronic differential (E-Diff), and high-performance traction control. The SF90 XX Stradale features bespoke Multimatic dampers derived from GT racing. Braking performance is governed by a brake-by-wire system paired with high-performance carbon-ceramic brake discs.

Cabin & Features

The SF90's cabin is strictly driver-focused with a clean, fully digital layout. A 16-inch curved HD digital instrument cluster displays all primary driving and vehicle data. The steering wheel incorporates the eManettino selector in place of the traditional Manettino switch to control power delivery modes for the hybrid system. Drivers can select from four dedicated drive modes: eDrive (pure electric front-wheel drive with up to 25 km of range), Hybrid (automatic efficiency management), Performance (V8 runs continuously to keep the battery charged), and Qualify (unlocks full 1,000 cv maximum output). The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. A 6-speaker sound system is fitted as standard. For seating, the SF90 XX is equipped with lightweight carbon-fibre racing bucket seats weighing a mere 11.4 kg each. The SF90 Spider features a Retractable Hard Top (RHT) that preserves aerodynamic efficiency even with the roof folded down.

Safety & Driver Assistance

The SF90 is comprehensive in both active and passive safety. Passive safety provisions include dual front airbags, front side airbags, and front-to-rear full-length curtain airbags. Active safety systems encompass Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control System (TCS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Driver assistance features include front and rear parking sensors, Auto Brake Hold, Hill Start Assist, Head-Up Display (HUD), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The SF90 XX variants also feature four-point racing harnesses for maximum occupant restraint during high-speed track driving.

Market Performance & Reception

The SF90 Stradale had a starting guide price of around RM5,108,000 in the Chinese market. In 2025, annual sales of the SF90 in China stood at 63 units. The SF90 XX Stradale 10th Anniversary Custom Edition carried a starting price of USD 840,000, equivalent to approximately RM5,720,000. In 2025, Ferrari delivered a total of 13,752 cars worldwide, supported by steady deliveries of the SF90 XX range and ongoing sales of the SF90 Spider. As Ferrari's first four-figure horsepower production model and its maiden series-production plug-in hybrid supercar, the SF90 set a new technical benchmark in the supercar arena with track-bred innovations, an immense 1,000 hp output, and an astonishing 2.5-second 0-100 km/h acceleration, formally ushering the Prancing Horse marque into the electrified performance era.
