GWM ORA Good Cat GT

2026-09-30 06:40:02

Model Overview

The ORA Good Cat GT is an all-electric B-segment hatchback under Great Wall Motor's (GWM) EV sub-brand, ORA, officially marketed as the "ORA Good Cat GT Mulan Edition". First introduced in 2021, this sporty iteration of the standard Good Cat adopts a retro-sporty aesthetic and an "electric hot hatch" persona as its core selling points, primarily aimed at younger buyers seeking distinctive styling and an engaging drive.

As of June 2026, the 2025 Good Cat GT Mulan Edition spearheads the lineup in two variants: Luxury and Premium. Official recommended retail prices range from RM96,800 to RM106,800, with limited-time trade-in promotional pricing starting from RM92,800. This 2025 model-year update focuses primarily on smart cockpit enhancements and subtle exterior styling tweaks.

Design Language

The 2025 Good Cat GT retains ORA's signature curvaceous retro profile while amping up its sporty credentials over the standard hatchback. The front end carries over the iconic circular "frog-eye" LED headlights crafted by an ex-Porsche designer, giving the EV immediate road presence. Setting it apart from the standard model is a more aggressive front bumper incorporating a faux diffuser and vibrant red inserts, complemented by a carbon-fibre-look front splitter and a prominent roof spoiler for a purposeful, hot-hatch stance.

In terms of dimensions, the EV measures 4,254 mm long, 1,848 mm wide, and 1,596 mm tall, riding on a 2,650 mm wheelbase. These figures place it on the larger end of the B-segment, translating into generous interior room. From the side, 18-inch petal-style alloy wheels with contrasting red brake calipers come standard, alongside prominent "GT" badges on the front fenders and tailgate to reinforce its sporty flair.

Inside, the 2025 Good Cat GT bids farewell to the old dual-screen setup in favour of a modern layout featuring a standalone floating infotainment touchscreen alongside a full digital instrument cluster. Drivers get a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, red-and-black dual-tone suede upholstery, and contrast stitching, while tactile physical toggles are retained for the climate control switchgear to ensure seamless operation on the move.

Powertrain & Performance

Powering the 2025 ORA Good Cat GT is a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor driving the front wheels (FWD). The electric motor outputs a maximum of 126 kW (approx. 171 PS) and 220 Nm of torque. The century sprint from 0-50 km/h is dealt with in around 3.5 seconds, while top speed is rated between 150 and 160 km/h.

Under the floor, the 2025 range features a 45.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack sourced from CATL, delivering a CLTC-rated pure electric range of 430 km. For this model year, ORA has streamlined the range by dropping the older 401 km version in favour of this standardised 430 km setup.

When it comes to charging, the Good Cat GT supports DC fast charging, juicing the battery from 30% to 80% State of Charge (SoC) in approximately 30 minutes, while AC charging takes about 8 hours for a full top-up. In addition, a 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse power capability comes standard across the board, allowing owners to run external appliances during camping or tailgating trips.

Chassis & Handling

Under the skin, the Good Cat GT rides on front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam suspension setup. The chassis has undergone dedicated fine-tuning to deliver firm lateral body control under spirited driving without compromising everyday ride comfort, giving it a decidedly sportier edge. Thanks to the low centre of gravity provided by the underfloor battery pack, the Good Cat GT displays composed body control and minimal roll through sweeping bends.

Steering duties are handled by an electric power steering (EPS) rack tuned for direct response with minimal on-centre deadzone, calibrated to be light and manageable for everyday urban commuting. Braking is handled by front ventilated discs and solid rear discs, paired with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold as standard. It rides on 225/55 R18 tyres, with the 18-inch rims and red calipers completing the visual punch. All in all, the Good Cat GT offers snappier throttle response and firmer chassis feedback than the standard hatch, living up to its "GT" moniker.

Cockpit & Features

The 2025 Good Cat GT receives substantial tech updates in the cabin, headlined by a 14.6-inch floating centre touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster. It runs on GWM's latest Coffee OS 3 operating system, complete with a dedicated Coffee App Store featuring over 40 mainstream apps and supporting Software Over-The-Air (SOTA) remote updates. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 automotive-grade processor with 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, the system boots up in just 3 seconds and boasts advanced voice control capable of parsing up to 10 commands in a single breath.

Creature comforts are plentiful across the range, including a multifunction steering wheel, premium leatherette upholstery, automatic climate control with a CN95 cabin filter, a 360-degree surround-view monitor, and a "see-through" transparent chassis display. Higher-spec variants add a fast wireless smartphone charger and ventilated/heated front seats. Entertainment is routed through a standard 6-speaker audio system. Boot capacity stands at 228 litres, expandable to 858 litres with the rear seats folded down—ample space for urban errands and weekend getaways alike.

Safety & Driver Assistance

On the passive safety front, the Good Cat GT is engineered with a high-strength cage body shell and comes standard with 6 airbags, comprising dual front, front side, and full-length curtain airbags.

Active safety is comprehensive, with the 2025 model featuring a suite of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This includes full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (0-150 km/h), Lane Centring Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Traffic Sign Recognition. Parking is made effortless via a 540-degree panoramic camera system (incorporating a transparent underfloor view) and an automated parking assist function supporting over 100 parking scenarios—a handy feature for tight city spots. Driving assists are managed by the ORA Pilot suite, which relies on an array of millimetre-wave radars, ultrasonic sensors, and multi-lens cameras to deliver segment-competitive active safety.

Market Performance & Reception

Back in its domestic Chinese market, the ORA Good Cat GT has faced an uphill battle. The ORA brand has seen dwindling volumes since 2022, registering just 63,300 units in full-year 2024 (down 41.69% year-on-year), while May 2025 deliveries sank by 67.34% year-on-year to 1,961 units. The combined Good Cat nameplate (standard and GT versions) manages only around 1,000-plus units monthly, trailing far behind blockbuster rivals like the BYD Dolphin, which regularly shifts well over 10,000 units a month.

Conversely, the Good Cat GT found firmer footing abroad. Rebadged as the ORA Funky Cat GT in Europe, the EV helped the brand secure around 20,000 orders across key European markets in 2024, alongside a dedicated right-hand drive (RHD) model for the UK. In the UK, the 2025 GT variant was positioned on the premium side with a starting price of roughly £32,995 (approx. RM300,000). However, GWM subsequently announced its exit from the UK market in April 2026, following a lacklustre 2025 showing where total ORA registrations (including the Funky Cat) tallied just 542 units.

On the ground, owners frequently praise the Good Cat GT for its head-turning design, brisk low-speed acceleration, nippy city handling, and quiet cabin refinement. Nevertheless, online consumer forums have highlighted several grievances: real-world driving range falls short of claims, with users reporting roughly 460 km in city driving and dropping to around 380 km at highway cruising speeds. Furthermore, automotive complaint portals like 12365auto document user complaints regarding drivetrain shudder under hard acceleration, unexplained battery drain, intermittent ABS/brake warning lights, infotainment lag, and vehicle startup glitches.

In summary, the ORA Good Cat GT—as ORA's pioneering global product—managed to turn heads overseas thanks to its retro charm and urban-friendly footprint. Yet in its home market, a combination of real-world range discrepancies, quality control niggles, and fierce competition from the dominant BYD Dolphin has kept it from achieving mainstream commercial success. While the 2025 Good Cat GT attempts to regain ground with sharper pricing and upgraded in-car tech, whether it can truly revitalise the nameplate remains to be seen.
