Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition

2026-10-02 04:00:01

Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition (abbreviated as Auto Guangzhou) is an international motor show jointly organised by the China Foreign Trade Centre, China Machinery Industry Federation, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, and the Automotive Sub-Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, among others. Established in 2003, Auto Guangzhou is held annually and ranks as one of China's top three automotive exhibitions, widely recognised as the "barometer of China's automotive market".

Historical Background

In November 2003, the inaugural Auto Guangzhou was staged at the then newly built Guangzhou Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Covering an exhibition floor space of nearly 60,000 square metres, it drew over 230 domestic and international carmakers and showcased more than 200 complete vehicles. Unlike most domestic motor shows at the time that primarily served as dealership sales events, the debut Auto Guangzhou adopted the theme "Leading the Direction, Driving the Future", establishing a clear positioning focused on "High Quality, Internationalisation, and Comprehensiveness".

Over two decades of growth, Auto Guangzhou has expanded from nearly 60,000 square metres in its first edition to more than 220,000 square metres today. In 2014, the show pioneered a dedicated new energy vehicle (NEV) hall; in 2018, it collaborated with Germany's Essen Motor Show to launch the "China Essen Motor Show"; and in 2021, it introduced dedicated themed zones such as the "Future Automotive Technology Hall".

Past Editions: Scale and Figures

The footprint and industry influence of Auto Guangzhou continue to grow. In 2022, the 20th edition expanded into Area D of the Canton Fair Complex for the first time, increasing the total exhibition area to 220,000 square metres. The 21st edition in 2023 showcased 1,132 vehicles, drawing a total footfall of 847,000 visitors.

In 2025, the 23rd Auto Guangzhou ran under the theme "New Tech, New Life", spanning 220,000 square metres with 1,085 vehicles on display. Of these, 629 were NEVs, making up 58% of the total and surpassing the 50% mark for the first time; 93 new car debuts were also recorded. The 10-day event attracted a total attendance of 855,000 visitors, covered by 12,300 accredited media members. The exhibition also premiered an AI-powered smart customer support system alongside a panoramic surveillance network, with the AI concierge recording an average response time of just 0.27 seconds and a 98% resolution rate.

The 24th Auto Guangzhou is slated to run from 27 November to 6 December 2026. The upcoming edition is expected to cover over 240,000 square metres and host more than 1,000 exhibitors from across the globe.

Exhibitors and Highlights

Auto Guangzhou brings together key automotive brands from across the globe. At the 2025 edition, global marques on the floor included BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, Ford, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. On the domestic front, Chinese automotive groups such as FAW, SAIC, Changan, BAIC, GAC, Geely, and BYD showcased their complete model line-ups. Dedicated NEV brands including HIMA, NIO, XPENG, Xiaomi EV, Li Auto, and Leapmotor shared the floor alongside technology giants such as CATL and Huawei Intelligent Automotive Solution BU.

The show spans passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and automotive supply chain segments. The supply chain and automotive culture zones featured a heavy focus on electric drive motors and power electronics, charging and energy storage systems, autonomous driving, and intelligent cockpit technologies, driving an impressive 81% surge in exhibitor participation in 2025.
