HiPhi is a luxury intelligent pure electric car brand under Human Horizons. Founder Ding Lei previously served as Vice President of SAIC Group, General Manager of SAIC-GM, and in other roles. The brand was established on July 31, 2019, with its headquarters in Shanghai. Its philosophy is "Creating works, not just products," focusing on the high-end luxury intelligent electric vehicle market.

Development History

In 2017, Human Horizons was established and began laying the groundwork for new energy vehicles. In July 2019, the HiPhi brand was officially launched, and the first mass-produced prototype, the HiPhi 1, was premiered on the same day. In September 2020, the first mass-produced model, the HiPhi X, went on sale, priced at 570,000 to 800,000 RMB. In 2021, the brand opened its first batch of 10 HiPhi Centers in 7 cities nationwide, creating boutique urban factories. In 2022, the second model, the HiPhi Z, was launched. In 2023, the third model, the HiPhi Y, premiered, with the starting price dropping to 339,000 RMB. In the same year, the HiPhi Z City Edition was launched. That year, the brand also won multiple international awards, including the German Red Dot Design Award "Product Design Grand Prize."

In February 2024, HiPhi announced a work stoppage and production halt, entering a six-month "rescue period." In August 2024, the parent company, Human Horizons (Jiangsu) Technology Co., Ltd., applied for bankruptcy reorganization with the court. In May 2025, Jiangsu HiPhi Automobile Co., Ltd. was established, with a registered capital of approximately 1.03 billion RMB. Lebanon-based company EV Electra Ltd. holds 69.8%. In January 2026, the "Draft Reorganization Plan" was released, under which over 80% of claims will be converted into equity in the new company. On April 2, 2026, the Yancheng Economic Development Zone Court ruled to approve the reorganization plan, ending the reorganization procedure that had lasted over 600 days.

Product Portfolio

HiPhi has launched four mass-produced models in total.

HiPhi X: The first flagship model, positioned as a mid-to-large pure electric SUV, priced at 570,000 to 800,000 RMB. Equipped with a rear-wheel active steering system and a minimum turning radius of only 5.8 meters, it is an important product featuring technology and luxury.

HiPhi Z: The second model, positioned as a mid-to-large pure electric coupe GT, priced at approximately 600,000 to 800,000 RMB. The entire series comes standard with a full-speed range rear-wheel active steering system (maximum angle 13.2°), equipped with dual motors and a 120 kWh battery, with a CLTC range of up to 705 km.

HiPhi Y: The third model, positioned as a mid-to-large pure electric SUV. Its starting price dropped to as low as 339,000 RMB, making it a key product for boosting sales volume. It is equipped with the NT Wing Door system, and the long-range version has a CLTC range of 810 km.

HiPhi A: A top-tier electric supercar jointly developed with Union Power Century, produced in a global limited edition. Based on an 800V platform with a three-motor layout, it delivers a peak power of 1,305 hp, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds. Equipped with torque vector control HVC technology, its cornering performance is improved by 15%.

Market Performance

HiPhi's sales have long hovered at low levels. Cumulative sales in 2021 were 4,237 units, and in 2022 they were 4,349 units. In 2023, with the launch of the HiPhi Y, sales rebounded to 8,681 units, ranking 97th among Chinese brands. After entering 2024, sales were no longer publicly disclosed. The parent company's 52 consolidated companies have a book liability as high as 15.781 billion RMB, with 2,485 common creditors totaling approximately 12.476 billion RMB. In Q1 2026, HiPhi remained in a halted state prior to resuming work.

Core Technology

HiPhi's core technology focuses on three major areas: smart chassis, high-performance powertrains, and intelligent driving.

In terms of smart chassis, the brand was the first to mass-produce full-speed range rear-wheel active steering technology. The first model, the HiPhi X, is equipped with 10° rear-wheel steering, while the HiPhi Z has upgraded to 13.2°. Both are simultaneously equipped with IVC vehicle integrated control technology, jointly tuned with Bosch. The HiPhi A is also equipped with HVC torque vector control technology, improving cornering performance by 15%.

In terms of high-performance powertrains, the brand has built a three-motor drive system based on an 800V high-voltage platform. The motor speed reaches 22,000 rpm, with a peak power of 1,305 hp.

In terms of intelligent driving, the brand self-developed the HiPhi OS in-vehicle system. The HiPhi Y comes standard with high-speed NOH pilot assistance across the entire series, equipped with 32 high-spec sensors and an NVIDIA Orin X chip.

Global Presence

HiPhi actively expanded its overseas presence. In June 2023, the brand announced European pricing: the HiPhi X started at €109,000 in Germany, and the HiPhi Z started at €105,000. The brand has also drawn interest from Middle Eastern investors, and its future overseas strategy will focus primarily on the Middle East and Europe.

Future Outlook

With the reorganization plan approved by the court, HiPhi's path to resuming production has officially begun. The new company will promote model iteration relying on the Jiangsu Yancheng factory. Whether the brand can move from "halted" to "rebirth" depends on multiple factors, including the arrival of investor funds, supply chain reconstruction, and the restoration of user trust. According to the China National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System, the brand's industrial and commercial registration status is currently still active, and its production capacity and access qualifications remain the core resources for the brand's restart.
