Maserati Grecale

2026-09-29 22:20:02

Model Overview

The Maserati Grecale is a mid-size luxury SUV from Italian marque Maserati, which made its global premiere in 2022. Serving as a cornerstone in the brand's rejuvenation strategy, the Grecale slots below the mid-to-large Levante, takes "The Everyday Exceptional" as its design mantra, and goes directly against the Porsche Macan. Underpinned by the Stellantis Group's Giorgio platform, the Grecale, alongside the GranTurismo sports coupe and the MC20 supercar, epitomises Maserati's Italian luxury pedigree. In December 2025, Maserati announced that the entire Grecale line-up would drop four-cylinder powerplants in favour of the standard 3.0-litre twin-turbo "Nettuno" V6 engine. As of June 2026, the domestic 2026 Grecale range is offered in two V6 variants—Modena and Trofeo—commanding an indicative price tag between RM650,000 and RM1,040,000. In June 2026, Maserati unveiled an annual facelift model, bringing further exterior and interior refinements.

Design Language

The Grecale’s styling stays true to Maserati’s "dynamic balance" design philosophy, maintaining an athletic stance even when stationary. Up front, it retains the marque's signature vertical-slat chrome grille with the iconic Trident badge, complemented by new vertically oriented headlamps echoing the MC20. The 2026 model benefits from a reprofiled front bumper where the grille seamlessly integrates with the side air curtains to accentuate visual width; at the same time, it gains a more sculpted new badge alongside blacked-out styling packages to amplify its sporty intent. Around the back, the 2026 update introduces clear-lens tail lamps that deliver distinctive nighttime illumination. The range-topping Trofeo variant adds bespoke aero body kits and dedicated interior colourways. In terms of dimensions, it maintains a classic mid-size SUV footprint. The updated 2026 cabin receives subtle tweaks, including new open-pore wood trim, a newly styled flat-bottom sports steering wheel (finished in either leather or Alcantara), along with an updated digital dashboard clock and a refreshed infotainment UI.

Powertrain & Performance

For 2026, the Grecale has fully phased out four-cylinder units in favour of an all-V6 line-up. Every variant now comes standard with the MC20-derived 3.0-litre twin-turbo "Nettuno" V6 engine. The powerplant is available in two output tunes: the Modena variant puts out 390 PS, up 60 PS over the outgoing 2.0T engine; the flagship Trofeo gets the full-fat tune, churning out 530 PS (525 hp) and a peak torque of 620 Nm. Power is channelled through a ZF 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission paired with full-time all-wheel drive (AWD) across the board. On the performance front, the Modena completes the 0-96 km/h sprint in just 5.0 seconds; the Trofeo despatches 0-100 km/h in a scant 3.8 seconds before topping out at 285 km/h.

In addition, the line-up includes the all-electric Folgore, which packs a 105 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor AWD setup rated at 410 kW (around 550 PS), allowing a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.0 seconds alongside a maximum range of up to 580 km.

Chassis & Handling

The chassis setup serves as the heart of the Grecale’s engaging Italian driving dynamics. It rides on a double-wishbone front and multi-link rear independent suspension layout, matched with full-time AWD across the range. The Trofeo variant steps up with adaptive damping and a limited-slip differential (LSD) as standard. An adaptive air suspension system is also optionally available for the 2026 model. On the drive mode selector, the Trofeo exclusively features a "Corsa track mode" that completely disables the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system for an unfiltered driving experience. Dynamically, the AWD system remains rear-biased under most driving conditions, sending less than 30% of torque to the front axle only on corner exit or when wheel slip occurs. Despite tipping the scales at around 2.1 tonnes, the Trofeo’s potent powertrain and sharp chassis tuning ensure remarkably agile handling dynamics.

Cabin & Features

Inside the cockpit, the Grecale adopts a digital layout comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a dual-screen centre stack with 12.3-inch and 8.8-inch angled displays. Five upholstery trims are offered, including new Premium Leather in Chocolate Brown and Sport Leather in Black-Blue; buyers can also pick from 11 bespoke Fuoriserie seat personalisation schemes. Audiophiles are treated to a standard 14-speaker Sonus Faber premium sound system, which can be upgraded to an optional 21-speaker setup on the 2026 model. Even in standard guise, the Grecale offers more than 2,000 personalisation combinations, with the Fuoriserie bespoke programme unlocking virtually limitless tailoring possibilities. The 2026 update also sees the addition of a driver drowsiness monitor and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Safety & Driver Assistance

In terms of safety, the Grecale is fully equipped with a comprehensive suite of airbags and vehicle stability control systems as standard. The 2026 iteration introduces a driver drowsiness detection system and enhanced ADAS features, further bolstering its active safety credentials.

Market Performance & Verdict

Since its introduction, the Grecale has navigated a fiercely contested mid-size premium SUV segment. In 2024, Maserati recorded 1,209 deliveries in China, representing a year-on-year drop of 58%. Nevertheless, the Trofeo variant occupies a distinct niche among high-performance, million-ringgit-tier mid-size SUVs—its combination of the 3.0T V6 "Nettuno" mill, 530 PS output, and hardcore Corsa mode gives it a character few rivals can match. Its primary cross-shopped rival remains the Porsche Macan GTS. Automotive pundits often note that the Grecale Trofeo caters to an uncompromising, discerning clientele—seasoned car enthusiasts who crave that distinctive Italian bad-boy flair and emotive drama that generic rivals simply cannot deliver. Armed with standard V6 power across the board, refreshed styling, and enhanced tech, the 2026 Grecale further cements its product appeal.
