Model Overview

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a core mid-size luxury SUV under the Mercedes-Benz stable, positioned between the GLB and GLE, with the long-wheelbase version locally assembled by Beijing Benz (chassis code X254). The current-generation GLC was launched domestically in 2023, built on the MRA2 platform. In November 2025, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC was officially rolled out across multiple variants, with official retail prices ranging from RM399,800 to RM525,300. The updated line-up introduces the GLC 260 L 4MATIC Classic Edition as the new entry-level variant, while axing the GLC 300 L 4MATIC Luxury 7-seater variant. Standing as one of Mercedes-Benz's global best-selling SUVs, the GLC goes head-to-head with the Audi Q5L and BMW X3.
Design Language
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC retains the brand's signature "Starry Night" design language. Up front, it features the iconic star-pattern dot-matrix radiator grille, embellished with a constellation of stars and anchored by a prominent central three-pointed star emblem, exuding an undeniable sense of luxury. Digital Light headlamp units replace conventional clusters, featuring dynamic levelling and adaptive beam height, capable of switching seamlessly between high and low beams based on real-time road conditions.
Along the flanks, the profile is sleek and proportional. The long-wheelbase version measures 4,826mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,714mm in height, riding on an expansive 2,977mm wheelbase. This wheelbase matches that of larger segment SUVs, complemented by a crisp, continuous shoulder line stretching from the front wheel arches right through to the rear to sculpt an elegant silhouette. At the rear, ring-shaped LED tail lamps feature integrated three-pointed star motifs for unmistakable recognition when lit. Down below, dual integrated exhaust tips further accentuate its sporty stance.
Step inside, and the GLC showcases Mercedes-Benz's signature wraparound luxury cabin architecture. The dashboard is dominated by a dual-screen setup comprising a 12.3-inch floating digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen. Signature turbine-style air-conditioning vents pair with 64-colour ambient lighting to create an opulent cabin atmosphere, while the column-mounted electronic gear selector frees up valuable space on the centre console.
Powertrain & Performance
Under the bonnet, the entire 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC range is powered by an M254 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a second-generation ISG (Integrated Starter-Generator) 48V mild-hybrid system, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission (9G-TRONIC) . It is available in two output tunes:
GLC 260 L (Low Output) : Delivers a maximum output of 150kW (204 hp) and peak torque of 320Nm. Official 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 8.2 seconds, with a top speed of 212 km/h.
GLC 300 L (High Output) : Delivers a maximum output of 190kW (258 hp) and peak torque of 400Nm. Official 0-100 km/h acceleration takes 6.8 seconds, on to a top speed of 223 km/h.
On the WLTC combined cycle, fuel consumption is rated at 7.2L/100km for the GLC 260 L and 7.5L/100km for the GLC 300 L. Fuel tank capacity stands at 66 litres. The integration of the second-generation ISG motor enhances stop-start refinement while trimming overall fuel consumption.
Chassis & Handling
The Mercedes-Benz GLC employs a front-engine all-wheel-drive layout, equipped with the 4MATIC permanent all-wheel-drive system. Underneath, it rides on a front and rear multi-link independent suspension setup featuring aluminium steering knuckles and steel control arms to strike a fine balance between unsprung weight and rigidity. Tuned meticulously by Mercedes-Benz, the chassis delivers an impressive blend of ride comfort and composure, keeping body roll well in check through corners while soaking up road imperfections with aplomb. It also features variable-ratio steering for effortless low-speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability. Stopping power is courtesy of ventilated disc brakes at all four corners with an electronic parking brake (EPB). As for rolling stock, the GLC 260 L rides on 235/55 R19 tyres, while the GLC 300 L steps up to 255/45 R20 tyres.
Cabin & Equipment
The smart cabin represents the core upgrade on the 2026 GLC. The SUV is equipped with the third-generation MBUX multimedia system powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, delivering a substantial leap in operating speed and multi-tasking performance. It supports 5G connectivity, voice control, wireless Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Higher-grade variants also gain an AR-HUD (Augmented Reality Head-Up Display) and a 540° surround-view camera system.
The 2026 GLC adopts a "more kit for the same price" strategy. Across the range (with the exception of the Classic Edition), heated front seats (previously a RM2,900 optional extra) and Drive Pilot Max (previously a RM15,700 option) are now fitted as standard. Variants from the GLC 260 L 4MATIC Luxury upwards also gain a smartphone digital key feature. Furthermore, USB ports have been upgraded to Type-C interfaces supporting higher-wattage fast charging.
In terms of seating arrangements, both 5-seater and 7-seater layouts are available. The 5-seater version offers 550 litres of standard boot space, expandable to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded, while the 7-seater variant provides 440 litres of standard cargo capacity. Thanks to the long 2,977mm wheelbase, 5-seater models boast generous rear legroom, complemented by a rear transmission tunnel hump measuring just around 3cm.
Safety & Intelligent Driving
Safety-wise, the GLC comes standard with passive safety kit including front, side, and full-length curtain airbags. On the active safety front, Level 2 driving assistance comes standard across the board. Aside from the entry-level Classic Edition, the Drive Pilot Max suite is standard equipment, offering Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving assistance that covers full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centring Assist, and automated lane changing, among other capabilities. Active Brake Assist and Lane Keeping Assist are also standard across all variants. Although the entry-level Classic Edition is priced RM28,000 lower than the Dynamic Edition, it still packs a generous kit list including Level 2 ADAS, LED High Performance headlamps, multi-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and a fingerprint scanner.
Market Performance & Verdict
The Mercedes-Benz GLC has consistently maintained strong sales numbers in the Chinese market. Total sales in 2025 reached 130,610 units, with Q1 2026 recording 28,125 units. In September 2025, monthly sales surged to 11,600 units, reclaiming the sales crown in the luxury mid-size SUV segment, followed by 14,550 units delivered in March 2026. Within the Mercedes-Benz stable, the GLC ranks second only to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class in sales volume.
Since 2025, faced with intense competition from new energy vehicles (NEVs), showroom discounts on the Mercedes-Benz GLC have widened significantly, with cash rebates exceeding RM110,000 on selected models. The 2026 update has further lowered the barrier to entry with its "more kit at no extra cost" approach and the introduction of a new base variant. Automotive media pundits highlight that the GLC's core strengths stem from the prestige of the three-pointed star, the cavernous cabin space courtesy of its 2,977mm long wheelbase, and Mercedes-Benz's hallmark cabin luxury. However, critics note that the third-row seating in the 7-seater version remains tight and is best suited for children. Serving as the sales backbone of Mercedes-Benz's SUV line-up in China, the GLC continues to hold a commanding lead in the premium mid-size SUV segment, backed by well-rounded product capability and strong brand equity.
