The Perodua Alza is an entry-level seven-seater compact MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) produced by Malaysia's second national carmaker, Perodua. The first-generation Alza debuted in 2009, underpinned by the Daihatsu Boon Luminas platform. Following an extensive 13-year lifecycle, the second-generation Alza (codenamed D27A) was officially launched in Malaysia on 20 July 2022. Built on the modular Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, it is Perodua's second DNGA-based model. The MPV is available in three variants: 1.5X, 1.5H, and 1.5AV, officially priced at RM62,500, RM68,000, and RM75,500 respectively, backed by a 5-year/150,000 km manufacturer warranty. Key rivals include the Toyota Avanza/Veloz and Proton Exora.
Design Language
The second-generation Alza completely sheds the dated styling of its predecessor. The front fascia features a studded grille combining piano black and chrome accents, delivering a sporty, bodykit-like look. Full-LED headlamps and tail lamps are standard across the range, marking the first time in Perodua's history that a model features an all-LED exterior lighting setup; higher variants further gain sequential turn signals. Body dimensions measure 4,425 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width, and 1,660 mm (1.5X) or 1,670 mm (1.5H/AV) in height, with a 2,765 mm wheelbase—a 35 mm increase in length over the first-generation model, with improved proportions and wheelbase offering more generous third-row legroom and space. The entry-level variant rides on 15-inch single-tone alloys, while mid- and top-spec variants step up to 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, slim horizontal LED tail lamps create a full-width light bar visual effect. Inside, mid-to-high variants feature a 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch floating infotainment touchscreen, complemented by gloss black trims and a two-tone black-and-red cabin theme. However, hard plastics still dominate the cabin build.
Powertrain and Performance
The entire second-generation Alza lineup is powered by the 2NR-VE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The engine produces 103–106 PS (approx. 77 kW) and 138 Nm of peak torque. Drive is sent through a D-CVT (Dual-Mode Continuously Variable Transmission) capable of simulating seven speeds. All variants feature a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. Fuel economy is one of the Alza's standout selling points—achieving an official rated fuel consumption of 22 km/L (approx. 4.55 L/100 km) with the Eco-Idle automatic engine stop-start system engaged. The range-topping 1.5AV variant also adds a drive mode selector with Eco, Normal, and Power modes.
Chassis and Handling
The second-generation Alza underpins the DNGA-B platform. Suspension duties are handled by MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam setup at the rear. The steering utilizes an Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system, delivering a tight 5.0 m turning radius. Braking is managed by front ventilated discs and rear drums on the 1.5X and 1.5H, whereas the flagship 1.5AV gains four-wheel disc brakes thanks to the inclusion of an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). Ground clearance is lower than its platform-sharing counterparts, the Toyota Veloz and Daihatsu Xenia, prioritizing handling stability with a slight compromise on rough-road clearance.
Cabin and Equipment
The Alza features a versatile 2+3+2 seven-seater seating configuration. The second-row seats feature a 60:40 split with a one-touch tumble mechanism for effortless third-row access, while the third row folds in a 50:50 split. Boot capacity stands at 137 litres with all seats in place, expanding to 498 litres with the third-row seats folded flat. Practicality is a major highlight, offering up to 15 cup holders throughout the cabin. For passenger comfort, rear roof-mounted air-conditioning vents with independent fan speed controls are standard across the board; the base variant is fitted with a conventional handbrake lever and single-zone digital climate control, whereas the flagship AV variant adds an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold. In terms of seat upholstery, the 1.5X and 1.5H come with fabric seats, while the 1.5AV gets two-tone red-and-black semi-leather semi-fabric sports seats. The 9-inch infotainment touchscreen on mid-to-high specs supports wired Android Auto, though official Apple CarPlay support has not been certified.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety is a standout highlight of the second-generation Alza. Standard across the range are 6 airbags (up to 6 airbags on the flagship AV; 4 airbags on the X and H), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TCS), ABS with EBD and Brake Assist (BA), alongside ISOFIX child seat anchors. Every variant comes standard with the Perodua Advanced Safety Assist 3.0 (ASA 3.0) active safety suite, comprising Pre-Collision Warning (PCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB with vehicle and pedestrian detection), Pedal Misoperation Control (PMC), Front Departure Alert (FDA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), and Auto High Beam (AHB). The mid-spec 1.5H adds front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) matrix LED headlamps. The top-of-the-line 1.5AV further gains the full Perodua Smart Drive Assist (PSDA) Level 2 semi-autonomous driving package, adding Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC with Stop & Go function), Lane Keep Control (LKC), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and a 360-degree panoramic view monitor.
Market Performance and Reception
The second-generation Alza received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic market response right from order taking. By September 2022, cumulative bookings had crossed 51,000 units, with 7,682 units delivered. In the full year of 2025, total registrations for the Alza in Malaysia reached 45,534 units. In January 2026, the Alza recorded 3,012 monthly registrations, ranking as the sixth best-selling passenger vehicle nationwide. To date, cumulative sales for the Alza nameplate in Malaysia have surpassed 564,118 units. As a seven-seater MPV priced below RM80,000, the Alza—bolstered by its improved ride quality on the DNGA platform, comprehensive safety and tech kit, class-leading fuel economy, and Perodua's trusted nationwide service network—has successfully carried forward the glory of its predecessor. Although hard plastics remain prevalent throughout the interior, within its price bracket, the Alza stands as the definitive benchmark in Malaysia's family MPV segment thanks to its well-rounded product strengths.
