RUF is a supercar tuning brand and vehicle manufacturer from Germany, founded by Alois Ruf Senior in 1939 in the town of Pfaffenhofen, Bavaria, Germany. The brand is globally known for deep customization of Porsche models, and has obtained independent vehicle manufacturer certification issued by the German government, possessing independent VIN coding qualifications.

RUF started as an ordinary car repair shop, later experiencing World War II and the post-war economic depression. In 1955, it switched to manufacturing mid-sized buses and achieved commercial success. In the 1970s, the third-generation operator, Alois Ruf Jr., shifted the company's focus to Porsche tuning, and in 1977 launched its first tuning project. In 1981, RUF obtained a vehicle manufacturer certificate issued by the German government and independently developed a five-speed manual transmission. In 1987, the CTR "Yellowbird," modified based on the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2, achieved a top speed of 342 km/h at the Nardo track, surpassing the Ferrari F40 to become the fastest production car in the world that year. That same year, it obtained dual certification from the US EPA and DOT, becoming a legal manufacturer in North America. In 1996, the CTR2 was launched, equipped with a 520 horsepower engine, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.
In 2011, RUF brought the CTR 3, RT12 R, XL, and Freiheit models to the Guangzhou Auto Show, announcing its official entry into the Chinese market.
RUF's core products are all deeply modified based on Porsche platforms, with representative models divided into several series.
CTR Series: The brand's performance totem. In 1987, the Yellowbird was modified based on the 911 Carrera 3.2, producing 469 horsepower and reaching a top speed of 342 km/h. The CTR 3 is based on the 997 Turbo, equipped with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine, strengthened by custom KKK twin turbochargers, achieving a maximum power of 750 horsepower, with a top speed exceeding 380 km/h.
Rt 12 Series: Based on the 911 Turbo, the Rt 12 S delivers a maximum power of 685 horsepower and peak torque of 880 N·m, retaining a six-speed manual transmission and paired with carbon ceramic brakes and hydraulic adjustable suspension.
Business and SUV Series: The RXL lengthens the wheelbase based on the Panamera, with its 4.8-liter V8 engine outputting 420 horsepower. The Freiheit is modified based on the Cayenne, offered in V6 hybrid and V8 naturally aspirated versions.
SCR: A recent representative work, equipped with a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and pushrod racing suspension. Its 4.0-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine produces 510 horsepower, with a vehicle weight of only 1,250 kg. Annual production is only 15 units, and the price is as high as 650,000 euros.
RUF is positioned in the global extremely niche supercar custom market, adopting a handmade, order-based production model with extremely limited annual production. Channel sales data is not publicly disclosed. After entering China in 2011, it was sold through an authorized dealer network, and in recent years, the brand has relied primarily on word-of-mouth within top-tier consumer circles in the Chinese market.
RUF's unique identity lies in being one of the few independent brands to obtain German government vehicle manufacturer certification. Its core power technology focuses on extreme engine tuning, achieved by replacing large-size turbochargers, custom independent intercoolers, and ECU rewriting to significantly increase original power. In transmission technology, the company independently developed a five-speed manual transmission in 1981 to match high-output turbo engines. In body structure, the latest models adopt a self-developed carbon fiber monocoque chassis and pushrod suspension system, greatly reducing weight and improving handling limits.
Apart from its German headquarters, RUF is actively promoting globalized production and sales networks. In 2023, a new North American headquarters and permanent operational base were established in Miami, USA. Previously, a production and sales base was also established in Bahrain, in the Middle East, making RUF a pioneer among European tuning manufacturers in setting up physical factories in the Middle East. China is a core strategic market for the brand. After entering China in 2011, RUF (China) Automobile Trade Co., Ltd. became the designated authorized dealer, introducing the full range of models including the RXL, Freiheit, CTR 3, and RT12 R.
RUF will continue to uphold its German handmade manufacturing and extreme performance tuning brand DNA, deepen its advantage as a full vehicle manufacturer, and continue to produce iconic series such as the CTR and SCR. In terms of global layout, it will deepen its presence in the American market using the new North American Miami headquarters as a hub, while radiating to emerging markets through its Middle East production base. In the Chinese market, RUF will continue to serve the top supercar collector community with extreme scarcity and brand heritage, consolidating its unique reputation among global independent supercar manufacturers.
