Rimac Automobili is an electric supercar manufacturer and advanced automotive technology supplier headquartered in Sveta Nedelja, Croatia. The brand was founded by creator Mate Rimac in 2009 in his home garage. Known for its independently developed extreme-performance electric drive system, Rimac is not only a top-tier supercar manufacturer globally but also a core technology supplier for many ultra-luxury brands.

Development History

Rimac's birth stems from an extreme pursuit of speed. At the time, 19-year-old Mate Rimac converted an old BMW 3 Series (E30) into an electric car to participate in drift competitions, and its extraordinary performance won multiple competitions and set 5 Guinness World Records recognized by the FIA. Shortly after, he transformed this passion into a startup project and formally established Rimac Automobili.

The brand's first work, the concept car, debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, instantly making a name for itself. However, this million-dollar electric supercar nearly exhausted the startup capital, pushing the company to the brink of collapse. The founder rejected the proposal to relocate the company to the UAE in exchange for investment, instead selling its independently developed leading technology to other car companies, successfully "saving" the company. This self-rescue transformed the company into a technology supplier, and its customer list quickly included top brands like Koenigsegg, Aston Martin, etc.

As its position in the technology field became increasingly solid, Rimac attracted more and more attention from the outside. Starting from 2015, Porsche invested in Rimac multiple times, and in 2021, integrated it with the French supercar brand Bugatti (Bugatti) which also belongs to the Volkswagen Group, established the joint venture "Bugatti-Rimac". Rimac holds a 55% controlling stake, officially taking over this century-old legendary brand.

Product Portfolio

Rimac's product line scale is very small, with extreme scarcity handcrafted limited supercars at its core.

Concept_One: The brand's groundbreaking work, limited production of only 8 units globally. It is equipped with four motors precisely controlled by a torque vectoring system, with a total power output reaching 1241 horsepower, making it the highest power density electric drive system in the world at that time.

Nevera Series: The brand's main flagship product. The standard Nevera has power up to 1914 horsepower, limited to 150 units. In 2025, the brand released a comprehensively upgraded ultimate performance version. This model broke 24 world records immediately after its launch, including the 0-400-0km/h, with a price of approximately 2.7 million US dollars.

Technology Supply Business (Rimac Technology): This is the core business supporting the company's revenue and development. As a Tier 1 supplier, Rimac provides core technology for Bugatti Tourbillon's V16 hybrid power system, and also provides batteries, electric drive systems, and one-stop power solutions to many global well-known vehicle manufacturers including Hyundai, Jaguar, BMW, etc.

Market Performance

In the supercar segment, 2025 was the best sales year in history for Rimac and Bugatti, with the two brands delivering a total of 136 units to customers worldwide. However, this also highlights a challenge: with prices reaching several million dollars, market acceptance of extreme electric supercars remains limited. The founder publicly admitted that the planned run of 150 limited units has never been fully sold out, and that the brand may explore supercars with other types of powertrains in the future.

In contrast, Rimac's technology supply (B2B) business has far greater scalability. Its core factory in Croatia spans approximately 95,000 square meters and is designed to produce tens of thousands of battery and electric drive units per month.

Core Technology

Rimac's technical capabilities are globally leading within its industry.

First is its extreme three-electric system. In terms of electric drive, its motors support speeds of up to 25,000 rpm and maintain over 95% peak efficiency. In battery management, the brand has configured an 800V high-voltage architecture and advanced oil-cooling heat dissipation technology for its top-tier electric drive systems, with precise control achieved through a 5th generation BMS, ensuring safety while delivering powerful output.

Second, the brand possesses full system integration capability, as vividly demonstrated by the new V16 hybrid system it developed for Bugatti. This system integrates core technology from three high-performance motors, pushing total power to nearly 1,800 horsepower, while successfully achieving a body weight lighter than the previous W16 model—demonstrating impressive engineering creativity.

In addition, the brand is equally advanced in forward-looking technology development. In September 2025, Rimac Technology unveiled its new generation solid-state battery pack platform based on Prologium solid-state cells, indicating that lighter weight and higher energy density are on the horizon, with the potential to fully address the range and range anxiety issues of electric supercars. At the same time, the company also released two major series of new battery products.

Overseas Layout

Rimac's overseas presence is mainly reflected at the capital level and in technology product output. On the capital front, its core investors come from Germany, China, the Middle East, and elsewhere. As early as 2017, China's Camel Group made a strategic investment in Rimac, and the two parties also cooperated to build a factory in Xiangyang, China. On the technology product output front, Rimac Technology's customers include multiple multinational automakers. Its major customers include the BMW Group, as well as startup car companies such as Saudi Arabia's Ceer Motors.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, Rimac stands at a key turning point. In 2026, one of its major shareholders announced that it will sell all of its shares in the joint venture, indicating that Rimac is gradually gaining full control over its supercar business (including Bugatti).

At the same time, the brand is fully promoting a strategic transformation from "supercar manufacturer" to "globally leading Tier 1 automotive technology supplier." In the future, Rimac Technology's business footprint is expected to be even broader than its supercar business. Rimac's ultimate goal is to take the cutting-edge technology developed for top-tier supercars and make it available to the broader electric vehicle market in a mass-producible way.
