Model Overview

The XPENG G9 is a mid-to-large fully electric flagship SUV from XPENG Motors, first launched in September 2022. Serving as the brand's flagship since its inception, the G9 is built on the X-EEA 3.0 electronic and electrical architecture and stands as China's first mass-produced vehicle on an 800V high-voltage SiC platform; positioned as an "ultra-fast-charging fully intelligent SUV", it targets the premium RM300,000-class new energy SUV segment. In March 2025, the 2025 G9 received a mid-cycle facelift that streamlined the line-up into three variants, making Turing AI smart driving and dual-chamber air suspension standard across the range while significantly lowering the starting price from RM309,900 to RM248,800. In January 2026, the 2026 G9 was further upgraded to focus on core autonomous driving enhancements, introducing an end-to-end large AI driving model and a peak charging capacity of 530kW. As of May 2026, the 2026 XPENG G9 is available in three variants—625 Max, 725 Max, and 680 4WD Max—with retail pricing ranging from RM248,800 to RM278,800. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,891mm in length, 1,937mm in width, and 1,670mm in height, riding on a 2,998mm wheelbase.

Design Language

The XPENG G9 incorporates the brand's signature "X-BOT FACE 3.0" family design language. Up front, a closed-off grille is paired with a full-width LED daytime running light bar and split headlamp clusters, with the light bar capable of dynamic interactive lighting signatures. The side profile features a prominent horizontal shoulder line running front to back, matched with short front and long rear overhangs alongside frameless doors to create an elongated, sleek stance. At the rear, the G9 is crowned by a Galaxy Lightsaber full-width LED tail light bar featuring dot-matrix light elements. For 2026, exterior colour options include Dark Night Black, Nebula White, Interstellar Green, and a newly added matte Crescent Silver; buyers can also specify 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels as well as the "Black Knight" or "Moonlight Knight" styling packages, which add darkened exterior trim for a sportier aesthetic. Inside, the cabin is swathed in extensive Nappa leather upholstery complemented by a standard MicroFiber suede headlining, delivering an accessible luxury environment with premium comfort.

Powertrain and Performance

The XPENG G9 comes standard across the range with a full-domain 800V high-voltage SiC architecture and the XPower electric drive system, offering a choice between single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and dual-motor intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD). The RWD version delivers a maximum output of 258kW and 465Nm of torque, achieving a 0-100km/h sprint in 6.4 to 6.6 seconds; the AWD version produces a combined 423kW and 695Nm of torque, completing the 0-100km/h run in just 4.2 seconds. Top speed is rated at 200km/h, with combined energy consumption kept as low as 13.9 to 15.6kWh/100km. For energy storage, it utilizes 79kWh and 93.1kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, yielding a CLTC-rated range between 625km and 725km. Fast charging remains a headline feature: the 2026 model supports 5C ultra-fast charging with a peak DC input of 530kW, allowing a 10% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in just 12 minutes on both the RWD 725 Max and AWD variants. A 6kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply is standard across all trims to cater to outdoor electrical needs.

Chassis and Handling

The chassis features a sophisticated setup consisting of a front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension, with extensive use of lightweight aluminium components to reduce unsprung mass and sharpen steering response. Standard equipment across all variants includes German Vibracoustic dual-chamber air suspension and Bilstein adaptive damping shock absorbers; compared to conventional single-chamber setups, the dual-chamber design provides a wider spectrum of stiffness adjustment to strike a precise balance between ride compliance and body control. The air suspension offers ride height adjustment and active stiffness adaptation: it automatically lowers at speed on paved highways to reduce drag and improve stability, while raising the vehicle over uneven terrain for better ground clearance. Braking is handled by ventilated discs all round with four-piston fixed calipers up front, achieving a 100-0km/h stopping distance of 33.9 metres. Regenerative braking offers four selectable levels: Low, Medium, High, and One-Pedal mode.

Cabin and Features

The XPENG G9 features the XOS Tianji AI smart cockpit system powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8295P chipset, incorporating a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster alongside dual 14.96-inch 2.4K ultra-HD displays in a three-screen layout. The infotainment system integrates XPENG's proprietary X-GPT large AI model, supporting Full-Scenario Voice 2.0, four-zone voice recognition with acoustic source localization, offline capability, and continuous multi-language conversation. Built-in software includes various dedicated scenario modes such as Meditation, Sleep, Camping, and Pet modes, as well as customizable AI Xiao P avatars and voice profiles. For seating comfort, the 12-layer ergonomic Nappa leather seats feature electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, and 10-point massage across all seats, with the rear seat backrests offering power recline adjustment from 27° to 37°. Other amenities include a heating and cooling compartment in the front centre armrest console and a triple-silver-coated panoramic glass roof with a 99.99% UV rejection rate to keep cabin temperatures in check. The Xopera premium audio system supports both AI Smart Audio and AI Immersive Surround modes.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

In terms of passive safety, the G9 is engineered to meet dual five-star crash safety standards from Euro NCAP and C-NCAP, featuring a high-rigidity steel-aluminium hybrid body structure. Six airbags are fitted as standard, including front dual airbags and full-length side curtain airbags spanning both rows. The active safety suite encompasses Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR). The 2026 model adds Emergency Steering Assist and tyre blowout stabilization to maintain vehicle stability and active protection under extreme conditions.

For advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the 2026 XPENG G9 comes standard with a Turing AI assisted driving chip and an end-to-end large AI model trained on over 12 million accident scenarios, delivering driving decisions that closely mirror human intuition and logic. Utilizing a vision-centric sensor suite comprising 26 perception hardware components (11 HD cameras, 3 millimetre-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors), the system enables full-scenario AI driving capabilities, including parking-space-to-parking-space Navigation Guided Pilot (City NGP and Enhanced Highway NGP), intelligent lane changes, Lane Centering Control (LCC with traffic light recognition), Auto Parking Assist (APA), Remote Parking Assist (RPA), Reversing Tracking, and Valet Parking.

Market Performance and Evaluation

Since its market launch, the XPENG G9 has maintained a steady presence in the premium EV segment. Sales records indicate annual deliveries of around 25,790 units in 2023, 24,295 units in 2024, and 20,129 units in 2025, consistently averaging around 20,000 units annually. Within XPENG Motors, the brand's RM300,000-class flagship lineup—comprising the G9 and X9—recorded combined annual sales of roughly 40,000 units, accounting for under 10% of total brand volume. Following the major price revision for the 2025 model in March 2025, monthly sales briefly climbed to around 2,500 units before settling into a normalised pace of under 1,000 units monthly from 2026 onwards. Key selling points praised by owners include its 800V ultra-fast charging capability (10–80% SoC in 12 minutes), class-leading dual-chamber air suspension ride quality, the comprehensive XNGP intelligent driving suite, and a lavishly equipped interior. Facing pressure from higher-priced models such as the AITO M9 and NIO ES8, as well as segment competitors like the Xiaomi YU7, the G9 has carved out a solid niche as a "practical flagship" in the RM250,000 to RM280,000 bracket. The 2026 model, with standard end-to-end large model AI driving, upgraded 530kW DC charging performance, and expanded active safety tech, further solidifies its position as a value benchmark among mid-to-large all-electric SUVs.
