Denza has unveiled the production version of the Z at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, turning the electric supercar from preview material into a full production model. The new flagship adds another high-performance EV to BYD’s expanding performance portfolio and will be sold in Coupé, Spider and Racing forms.

The launch matters because Denza is positioning the Z as a road-going supercar rather than a pure showpiece, with a specification that combines extreme output, fast-charging capability and high-end chassis hardware. While it sits below the more exotic Yangwang U9 in tone, the Z is still one of the most powerful production EVs announced so far.

The three versions share the same triple-motor drivetrain. The front motor produces 680 PS and 440 Nm, while each rear motor contributes 462 PS and 410 Nm, giving the car a combined output of 1,604 PS and 1,240 Nm. Denza says the rear motors are integrated into a 15-in-1 module, described as the first of its kind.

Performance is, predictably, very strong across the range. The Coupé weighs 2,230 kg and is claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.25 seconds, from 0-200 km/h in 6.36 seconds, and on to 300 km/h. The Spider adds 70 kg, bringing kerb weight to 2,300 kg, and posts 2.3 seconds to 100 km/h and 6.46 seconds to 200 km/h.

The track-oriented Racing version is no quicker in standard form, but it is the only variant that can be fitted with semi-slick tyres. With that option, Denza claims a 0-100 km/h time of 1.96 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 6.0 seconds and a higher top speed of 350 km/h.

The Z is relatively compact for a supercar, measuring 4,780 mm long, 1,975 mm wide and 1,330 mm tall, with a 2,780 mm wheelbase. That size limits battery packaging, so Denza uses a 76 kWh second-generation BYD Blade LFP battery rather than a larger pack.

WLTP range figures are modest by EV standards but in line with the car’s performance focus. The Coupé is rated at 409 km, the Spider at 400 km and the Racing at 380 km. Denza says the Z supports its 1,500 kW Flash Charging system, which can take the battery from 10 to 70% in five minutes and from 10 to 97% in nine minutes.

Under the body, the Z uses DiSus-M magnetorheological dampers, a first for BYD, paired with air springs on the Coupé and Spider and steel coil springs on the Racing. All versions get carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers, with Denza saying the setup saves around 30 kg in unsprung mass.

The car also uses Vehicle Motion Control, which links braking, suspension and steering responses and is said to react in 10 milliseconds. Other chassis functions include a Tyre Burst Control System that can detect a puncture and redistribute torque to stabilise the car, plus rear-axle torque vectoring that allows the Z to pivot sharply.

The design follows the previously shown concept closely, with sweptback headlights, pronounced rear haunches, a rising side character line and diamond-shaped rear lighting. The Coupé and Spider add a body-coloured front wing, a functional bonnet vent and a large rear diffuser, while the Racing gets larger cooling openings, a deeper carbon fibre splitter, vented front fenders and underfloor vortex generators.

Inside, the Z uses a slim dashboard and a narrow bridge-style centre console. Equipment includes an 8.88-inch instrument display, a 12.8-inch infotainment screen with Google services, Track and Boost drive modes, lap analysis functions, launch control and drift mode, plus the option of synthesised engine sound through the cabin speakers or external speakers.

Standard equipment is extensive and includes heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, power-assisted soft-closing doors, vehicle-to-load functionality, a digital rear-view mirror and a Devialet audio system with Dolby Atmos support. The Z seats four, though the Racing can also be specified with a half cage in place of the rear seats, and boot capacity is quoted at 250 litres, expanding to 550 litres with the rear seats folded. The Spider’s power-folding fabric roof reduces luggage space to between 131 and 176 litres.

UK pricing starts at GBP 142,900 (~RM 700,100) for the Coupé, rises to GBP 159,900 (~RM 872,700) for the Spider and reaches GBP 172,900 (~RM 943,800) for the Racing. Denza says orders will open in the third quarter, with deliveries due before the end of the year, while an even more extreme Special Edition is planned later for Nürburgring lap record attempts.
