Mazda CX-30 to be first Mazda CKD model in Indonesia, new plant is Monozukuri-focused

Mazda has officially opened its first dedicated assembly plant in Indonesia, with the Mazda CX-30 becoming the first model to roll out locally from the new facility in Citeureup, Bogor, West Java, as reported by Autonetmagz.

The Mazda Indonesia Plant (MIP) was inaugurated on 28 July 2026 and began mass production the following day, 29 July 2026. The facility sits on 6.2 hectares of land and was developed by PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI) with an initial investment of IDR 400 billion (~RM 90.5m).

What makes the plant notable is its structure. Unlike many vehicle plants in Indonesia that operate as joint facilities, MIP has been set up as a dedicated assembly site for Mazda only. That means the entire production line is reserved exclusively for Mazda vehicles.

According to EMI, the investment is being funded entirely by Eurokars itself, without outside backing. The company also said the initial capital will continue to grow as the plant develops further.

At the start of operations, MIP is set up with an annual production capacity of 5,700 units. The line is calibrated at 3 job per hour, which translates to three cars assembled every hour under normal operating rhythm.

Mazda CX-30 was chosen as the first locally assembled model for practical product reasons. EMI said the compact SUV still has a long lifecycle ahead and remains relevant in both global and domestic markets. The choice also follows the current market trend, where SUVs continue to dominate buyer interest.

The plant has been built around Mazda’s manufacturing philosophy rather than a volume-first approach. Mazda says Monozukuri, its Japanese production mindset focused on precision and respect for craftsmanship, is central to the new facility. Takumi Craftsmanship principles are also being applied, with human skill and sensory quality checks kept at the core of the process.

EMI said its quality target for the site is zero defect, with inspections carried out throughout the production flow instead of only at the end of the line. The company also stressed that quality remains its top priority over commercial output.

The first phase of operation has created 100 local jobs. These workers were not sent directly to the line; instead, operators, inspectors and supervisors were trained and certified first at Mazda’s mother plant in Thailand, with support from Mazda Japan specialists during the training period.

Local content is being introduced gradually to maintain global quality standards. At present, localisation includes the vehicle nameplate and GS Astra’s Q85 battery, which is specified for Mazda’s electrical requirements.

MIP is also designed with future flexibility in mind. Mazda says the facility is not limited to internal combustion engine models and has been prepared to support newer Mazda products in the future.

Closer to home, our Malaysian-spec Mazda CX-30 was introduced here in early-2020 as a fully-imported (CBU) model before switching to local assembly (CKD) in early-2023. The Mazda CX-30 is priced between RM 122k to RM 148k. The Indonesia-assembled units are likely for their local consumption and won't necessarily be exported to Malaysia.
