GWM Malaysia posts 3,166-unit H1 2026, eyes stronger second half, Ora 5 HEV and Haval H7 coming soon

GWM Malaysia has reported its strongest first-half performance since entering the market, delivering 3,166 vehicles in H1 2026 and marking a 42.4% increase from the same period a year earlier. The result placed the brand among Malaysia’s Top 11 best-selling automotive marques and set up a busier second half driven by new model introductions, customer offers and a new mobility partnership.

The company said sales momentum improved as 2026 progressed, with deliveries rising from 1,294 units in the first quarter to 1,872 units in the second quarter. That represented a 44.7% quarter-on-quarter increase, suggesting broader acceptance of GWM’s line-up, particularly its electrified models.

Among the brand’s key performers was the Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV, which climbed from 421 units in Q1 to 707 units in Q2. GWM Malaysia said the model remained the country’s best-selling officially distributed luxury MPV in its category, although the company did not provide a direct competitor breakdown.

The Haval H6 HEV remained GWM Malaysia’s highest-volume model, growing from 656 units in Q1 to 895 units in Q2. The Ora Good Cat EV also posted a strong quarter, with sales rising by 93% compared with the previous three months.

GWM Malaysia’s commercial operations managing director Stan Li Hao said the half-year result reflected growing consumer confidence in the brand’s products and technology direction. He added that the company now wants to expand its presence further and offer more value to customers.

The second half of 2026 is expected to be more active for the brand. Following the response at Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2026, GWM Malaysia is preparing to introduce the Ora 5 HEV and Haval H7 Hi4 PHEV to the local market. The Tank 300 HEV is also expected to continue gaining traction as hybrid models become more familiar to Malaysian buyers.

GWM Malaysia also said it welcomed the government’s decision to delay the implementation of PUA 402, saying the move allows current vehicle pricing structures to remain in place for a longer period. The company added that the upcoming changes to the Hire Purchase Act could improve financing transparency and accessibility, which it sees as another support for consumer confidence.

In parallel with its sales push, GWM Malaysia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Touch ’n Go Sdn Bhd to improve the ownership experience. The partnership is intended to support smarter and more connected mobility solutions, with an emphasis on tolling convenience and cashless travel.

As the first step under the agreement, every new GWM vehicle booked and registered from 1 August 2026 will come with a pre-installed or bundled Touch ’n Go x GWM branded RFID tag as standard. The programme applies to eligible vehicle registrations in Peninsular Malaysia only.

GWM Malaysia said the RFID initiative is meant to provide a more seamless tolling experience from the start of ownership, while also aligning with Malaysia’s longer-term Multi-Lane Fast Flow direction. Touch ’n Go said the partnership should help make connected mobility tools more accessible to motorists.

To mark Merdeka and Hari Malaysia, GWM Malaysia will also run a nationwide campaign from 1 August to 30 September 2026. Customers who book during the period and complete registration by 30 September can enter a promotion that offers six winners up to RM 1,000 in toll cashback.

The brand is also offering savings of up to RM 30,000 on selected models during August, alongside 5 years of free service maintenance for every new GWM vehicle purchased. GWM Malaysia said the package is intended to strengthen value for buyers as the brand expands its electrified portfolio.

The company will continue taking its products to selected dealerships and roadshow venues nationwide, including Vivacity Megamall in Kuching from 30 July to 2 August and the CarSifu Autoshow at Mid Valley Megamall from 12 to 16 August. It will also run an ORA 5 HEV preview programme ahead of the model’s official local launch.

For GWM Malaysia, the first half of 2026 appears to have been defined by hybrid and electric momentum. The next challenge is whether new products, ownership perks and the Touch ’n Go tie-up can turn that sales base into a longer, steadier growth run in the second half.
