Toyota Gazoo Racing has revealed the 2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla in the United States, positioning it as the most extreme GR Corolla yet and a track-focused compact hatch developed with lessons from the Nürburgring and endurance racing. Toyota says the model will be built in Japan and allocated primarily to North America, Japan and Australia, with full specifications and pricing to follow later.

The GRMN badge sits at the top of the GR Corolla family and is intended to sharpen driver engagement rather than broaden everyday usability.

According to Toyota, the new car was developed around the idea of increasing responsiveness, control and confidence at high speeds, with a stronger focus on circuit performance and feedback than the standard GR Corolla.

Toyota ties the project closely to Akio Toyoda, also known as Morizo, who pushed for a Corolla that could once again attract enthusiasts. The company says the GRMN Corolla was tuned with the Nürburgring in mind, reflecting the circuit’s reputation for exposing weaknesses that are not always visible on ordinary test tracks.

Aerodynamic revisions are a major part of the package. The car gets purpose-built hood, fender and front side spoiler elements, along with a rear wing derived from racing development work. Toyota says the rear wing uses a five-step adjustment mechanism, and its angle was fine-tuned in one-degree increments during testing with professional drivers.

Under the body, the GRMN Corolla uses exclusive front and rear monotube shock absorbers with rebound springs. Toyota says the suspension was developed to improve inner-wheel traction in corners and stability at higher speeds, while bump-stop characteristics were also refined after extensive testing on the Nürburgring’s uneven surfaces.

The chassis package is completed by Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, revised electric power steering calibration and a specially tuned all-wheel-drive control system. Toyota says the 4WD logic was adjusted to improve rear torque distribution in straight-line driving and to sharpen stability at the moment steering input begins at very high speed.

Power comes from Toyota’s G16E-GTS 1.6-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which in GRMN form produces 302 lb-ft of peak torque. Toyota says development focused on strengthening mid-range pull between 4,000 rpm and 4,600 rpm, an area that matters most when accelerating out of corners. An intercooler spray system is also fitted to help keep output stable during sustained full-throttle use.

Weight reduction is another headline change. Toyota has removed the rear seats and says the GRMN Corolla is 66 lb lighter than the base vehicle, improving the power-to-weight ratio and reinforcing the car’s track-first brief. This makes the model less practical than a regular hatchback, but it is clearly not meant to be judged on rear-seat usefulness.

Inside, the cabin has been revised for concentration and support. The GRMN Corolla gets semi-bucket front seats trimmed in black and red Brin Naub suede and synthetic leather, plus a flocked instrument panel and front pillar trim intended to reduce visual distraction.

Toyota also adds a carbon ornament from the Motomachi plant, a dash pad signed by Morizo, red-accented trim details and a GRMN-specific serial number plate.

Other hardware includes 18-inch matte-bronze forged alloy wheels, large ventilated disc brakes and a more motorsport-like cockpit treatment than the regular GR Corolla. Toyota says prototype images have been shown so far and that production vehicles may differ, while final equipment and MSRP details will be announced later.
