Proton delivers 19,465 vehicles in September; nine-month total tops 160,000, best pace since 2002

Proton released its September 2026 sales results on 2 October, reporting 19,465 vehicle deliveries, up 45% year on year. This brought its sales for the first nine months of the year to 160,886 units, an increase of 40.8% from the same period last year.

It is Proton's earliest 150,000-unit milestone since 2002, with the company already surpassing its full-year 2025 sales of 157,976 units after just nine months.

Proton estimates its market share at 28.9% for September and 26.9% for the first nine months, with the year-to-date increase ranking among the strongest of the major brands.

The Proton Saga returned to the top of Malaysia's best-selling car rankings in September, with 8,701 units delivered during the month. Its year-to-date sales have reached 68,237 units, up 34.5% year on year.

The latest-generation Saga, based on the AMA platform, has continued to gain momentum since its launch on 27 November 2025. Monthly sales reached 10,285 units in January, and the model has remained among Malaysia’s best-selling cars in the months since.

The Proton S70 also continued to perform steadily, with 2,756 units delivered in September and cumulative sales reaching 20,709 units. Its year-to-date total has already surpassed its full-year 2025 sales.

With the S70 1.5 i-GT recently added to the line-up, Proton expects the sedan to maintain its growth momentum through the fourth quarter.

Among SUVs, the Proton X50 continued to lead Malaysia's SUV sales rankings, with 1,995 units delivered in September and 20,163 units sold year to date.

The Proton X90 recorded 430 deliveries in September, taking its cumulative sales to 3,250 units, up 69.8% year on year. It also continued to lead the seven-seat SUV segment.

Proton's pure-electric eMas brand has now surpassed 40,000 cumulative deliveries, achieving the milestone in just 20 months and accounting for more than 60% of Malaysia’s EV market. The eMas 5 has contributed more than 20,000 units and remains Malaysia’s best-selling EV model.

xEV models currently account for 19.3% of Proton’s total sales, putting the company close to the government’s 20% target for 2030.

On the export side, Proton shipped 1,311 vehicles from its Tanjong Malim plant in September, bringing cumulative exports to 7,370 units.

The export line-up includes not only Proton models but also Coolray, Emgrand and Okavango vehicles assembled by Proton for Geely, helping the company improve economies of scale.

Proton Deputy CEO Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa said in a statement that third-quarter sales reached 60,540 units, marking the company’s best third-quarter performance since 2009 and its strongest quarterly result since the Proton-Geely partnership began.

He also confirmed that at least two new models will be launched before the end of the year, while the export business will continue to target growth for both Proton and Geely models in overseas markets.
