2026 Proton eMas 7 PHEV CKD buyer's guide: Plug-in hybrid SUV from RM105,800 – What's new for the CKD model?

On the final day of July 2026, Proton officially marked the start of CKD production for the eMas 7 PHEV at its AHTV new energy plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak.

Nearly a month later, on 26 August, pricing for the locally assembled SUV was quietly listed on Proton's official website—without a media launch, press releases, or prior teasers.

For prospective buyers keeping tabs on this model, the rollout brought two key takeaways: added comfort features, but no price reduction as many had anticipated.

Unchanged pricing

The locally assembled eMas 7 PHEV continues to be offered in three variants: Prime, Premium, and Premium Plus, priced at RM105,800, RM119,800, and RM125,800 respectively (on-the-road in Peninsular Malaysia, without insurance).

These figures already account for the manufacturer's RM4,000 limited-time rebate. Given that the eMas 7 EV received a RM6,000 price cut when transitioning to CKD assembly, holding the prices steady for the PHEV version came as a bit of a surprise to the market.

Two battery options

All three variants share the same powertrain setup: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine (99 PS / 125 Nm) paired with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor (218 PS / 262 Nm), driving the front wheels via an 11-in-1 Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) to deliver a combined output of 262 PS and 262 Nm.

In terms of acceleration, the Prime and Premium complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.0 seconds, while the Premium Plus takes slightly longer at 8.2 seconds due to the heavier battery pack. Top speed is capped at 170 km/h across the range.

The key differentiator lies in the battery capacity.

The Prime and Premium are equipped with an 18.4 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a pure electric range of 83 km on the WLTP cycle (105 km NEDC) and a total petrol-electric range of 943 km WLTP (1,000 km NEDC). Both support up to 30 kW DC fast charging, replenishing the battery from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes.

The top-spec Premium Plus upgrades to a 29.8 kWh Aegis short-blade LFP battery, boosting WLTP pure electric range to 136 km (170 km NEDC) and combined range to 996 km WLTP (1,065 km NEDC). DC fast charging capacity is also raised to 60 kW, cutting the 30%-80% charge time to 16 minutes.

AC charging is rated at 6.6 kW across all variants.

In terms of battery-depleted fuel consumption, the two lower variants achieve 4.3 L/100 km, while the flagship variant is rated at 4.4 L/100 km.

The sole CKD addition

The specification updates brought by local assembly are very specific.

The front seats in the Premium and Premium Plus now feature a massage function with six preset programmes (Wave, Stroll, Serpentine, Shoulder, Lumbar, and Peristaltic), complementing the existing powered adjustment, memory, and ventilation functions.

The Premium Plus also exclusively gains an electric leg rest for the front passenger seat.

Trim breakdown

As the entry-level offering, the Prime comes equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights (without an illuminated centre light bar) and LED taillights, a 6-speaker audio system, a reverse camera, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.4-inch Flyme OS central touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6 airbags, full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).

The mid-spec Premium adds 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, an illuminated full-width LED front light bar, a powered tailgate, power-folding door mirrors, powered leather seats with memory, ventilation, and massage functions, 256-colour ambient lighting, a wireless smartphone charging pad, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a Head-Up Display (HUD), and a 16-speaker Flyme Sound audio system.

The flagship Premium Plus builds on the Premium's spec sheet with the addition of a panoramic sunroof and an electric front passenger leg rest.

Warranty

The vehicle comes backed by a 6-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, while the high-voltage battery pack is covered by an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty.

As of 31 July 2026, cumulative deliveries of the eMas 7 PHEV stood at 4,946 units, securing a dominant 47% market share (as of end-June) in the local PHEV segment, with total bookings exceeding 11,000 units.

Which trim to buy?

If you have home charging access and your daily round-trip commute falls within 83 km (or 136 km with the flagship variant), the eMas 7 PHEV can operate as a full EV for daily driving while eliminating range anxiety on long-distance interstate road trips. In this price bracket, few alternatives offer this level of dual-purpose versatility.

Choosing between the three variants comes down to your core requirements:

Prime (RM105,800): The top pick for budget-conscious buyers; it gets the exact same powertrain and primary safety kit as the higher variants, only foregoing higher-end comfort and tech amenities.

Premium (RM119,800): For a RM14,000 premium over the base model, you gain an extensive equipment list—19-inch wheels, powered tailgate, HUD, 16-speaker sound system, as well as ventilated and massaging seats—making it the sweet spot for overall value.

Premium Plus (RM125,800): Topping up another RM6,000 over the Premium nets you a significantly longer pure electric range (136 km vs 83 km), faster DC charging, a panoramic sunroof, and a front passenger leg rest. If your commute is on the longer side or you place a premium on charging convenience, this variant is well worth the extra investment.
