2026 CKD Proton eMas 7 PHEV buyer's guide: What's different with the locally assembled model?

On 31 July 2026, Proton officially commenced the local assembly (CKD) line for the eMas 7 PHEV at its AHTV plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak. Come 26 August, Proton quietly rolled out the CKD version for sale. There was no grand launch event, no press release—just a quiet price update on its official website.

There is good news and bad news.

The good news: the CKD model gains an extra feature. The bad news: prices remain unchanged.

Pricing and variants

The Proton eMas 7 PHEV CKD continues to be offered in three variants: Prime, Premium, and Premium Plus. Official pricing is as follows:

Prime: RM105,800

Premium: RM119,800

Premium Plus: RM125,800

All prices quoted are on-the-road (OTR) without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia, inclusive of the manufacturer's limited-time rebate of RM4,000.

It is worth noting that while the Proton eMas 7 EV saw price reductions of up to RM6,000 upon transitioning to CKD, the eMas 7 PHEV CKD maintains its launch pricing.

Powertrain and range

Across the board, the powertrain remains identical.

The setup pairs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine (99 PS / 125 Nm) with a front permanent magnet synchronous electric motor (218 PS / 262 Nm), mated to an 11-in-1 Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). Total system output stands at 262 PS and 262 Nm, sent to the front wheels.

The Prime and Premium complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.0 seconds, whilst the heavier Premium Plus takes slightly longer at 8.2 seconds. Top speed is capped at 170 km/h across all variants.

The battery pack is the key differentiator between the variants:

Prime and Premium: Powered by an 18.4 kWh CATL LFP battery, providing a pure EV range of 83 km (WLTP) and 105 km (NEDC). Total combined petrol-electric range is rated at 943 km (WLTP) and 1,000 km (NEDC). It supports DC fast charging at up to 30 kW, taking 20 minutes to go from 30% to 80% SoC.

Premium Plus: Equipped with a 29.8 kWh Aegis short-blade LFP battery, delivering an EV-only range of 136 km (WLTP) and 170 km (NEDC). Total combined range reaches 996 km (WLTP) and 1,065 km (NEDC). It supports higher DC fast charging of up to 60 kW, completing the 30% to 80% charge in 16 minutes.

AC charging is capped at 6.6 kW across the range. In charge-depleted mode, official fuel consumption is rated at 4.3 L/100km for the Prime and Premium, and 4.4 L/100km for the Premium Plus.

New CKD features

This represents the sole equipment upgrade for the CKD model.

On the Premium and Premium Plus variants, both front seats gain a massage function on top of their existing power adjustment, memory, and ventilation features. Six massage modes are on offer: Wave, Walk, Serpentine, Shoulder, Lumbar, and Crawling. The Premium Plus also adds a leg rest for the front passenger.

The base Prime variant carries on as before, without the massage function.

Equipment differences 

Beyond the powertrain and battery differences, equipment is clearly tiered across the three variants:

Prime (Entry-level)

18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights (the full-width front LED bar is non-illuminating), 6-speaker sound system, and reverse camera.

Standard kit includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.4-inch Flyme OS infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6 airbags, full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).

Premium (Mid-spec)

Adds 19-inch dual-tone alloys, a full-width front light bar, powered tailgate, auto-folding wing mirrors, powered leather seats (with memory, ventilation, and newly added massage), 256-colour ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charging, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, Head-Up Display (HUD), and a 16-speaker Flyme Sound premium audio system.

Premium Plus (Flagship)

Adds a panoramic glass roof and a leg rest for the front passenger over the Premium spec.

Warranty

The eMas 7 PHEV range comes backed by a 6-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, alongside an 8-year/160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty.

As of 31 July 2026, cumulative deliveries of the Proton eMas 7 PHEV stood at 4,946 units, retaining its position as Malaysia's best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV. By the end of June, the model commanded a 47% share of the local PHEV segment, with total bookings surpassing 11,000 units.

Which variant should you buy?

If you have access to home charging, a daily commute within 83 km (or 136 km), and want an SUV that offers EV-like running costs in town without long-distance range anxiety, the eMas 7 PHEV remains one of the most compelling options in this price bracket.

The buying decision between the three variants is straightforward:

Pick the Prime if: Your budget is strictly capped around the RM106,000 mark. It retains all core powertrain and active safety tech, sacrificing only convenience and luxury amenities.

Pick the Premium if: You are willing to top up RM14,000 for 19-inch wheels, a powered tailgate, HUD, 16-speaker sound system, plus ventilated and massaging seats—making it the sweet spot in the lineup in terms of value.

Pick the Premium Plus if: You require a significantly longer electric range (136 km vs 83 km) and faster DC charging, or simply fancy the panoramic glass roof and passenger ottoman. An extra RM6,000 over the Premium gets you a noticeably larger battery pack and a far wider daily pure-electric radius.
