2026 Lexus NX facelift: What's new compared with the current model?

There is a major update coming for one of Malaysia's most familiar luxury SUVs. Lexus has unveiled the 2026 Lexus NX, with the facelift bringing changes to everything from the exterior and interior to its Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 and hybrid powertrain technology.

If you are considering an NX or simply want to know what has changed, here is a closer look at the current and 2026 facelifted models.

Exterior: New lighting brings sharper look

Current NX: The current model is instantly recognisable thanks to its Spindle Grille and full-width rear light bar. Its overall design strikes a balance between sporty styling and a more understated look.

2026 NX: The facelift keeps the same low-slung, wide-bodied proportions, measuring 4,690mm long, 1,865mm wide and 1,660mm tall, with a 2,690mm wheelbase.

The main dimensional change is the body length, which has increased by 30mm, while the width, height and wheelbase remain unchanged.

Up front, the 2026 NX gets a sharper-looking dual-line headlight design. At the rear, Lexus has introduced a new dual-L-shaped light signature, along with an illuminated "LEXUS" wordmark on the tailgate.

Interior and technology: A more immersive cabin

Current NX: The existing model uses Lexus' Tazuna cockpit concept, with a driver-focused layout and a strong emphasis on materials and build quality.

2026 NX: The facelift introduces Lexus' Performing Arts sensory concierge system, which links the cabin lighting, audio, air-conditioning and fragrance systems.

There are three modes and five fragrance themes, allowing drivers to change the cabin ambience according to their preference.

A new ABALOS interior colour has also been added, inspired by the sand dunes of Mars' northern hemisphere.

The updated cabin gets a side-by-side instrument cluster and infotainment display, while the steering wheel now uses hidden touch controls.

The Mark Levinson audio system also gets metal speaker grilles and surrounding illumination, adding a more distinctive finish to the cabin.

Safety: Lexus Safety System+ 4.0

Current NX: The current model comes with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which already provides a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features.

2026 NX: The new model moves to Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, with Lexus expanding the detection range and recognition capabilities of its sensors.

Chassis: Greater body rigidity

Current NX: The existing NX is known for its solid ride, with the Hybrid and F Sport variants offering a balance between comfort and handling.

2026 NX: Lexus has made changes to the body structure to improve rigidity. Floor rigidity has increased by around 25%, while suspension tower rigidity is up by around 30%.

The changes are intended to sharpen the NX's response through corners while giving it a more stable feel at higher speeds. Lexus has also worked on reducing road noise and vibration entering the cabin.

The E-Four electronic all-wheel-drive system has been retuned as well, with the aim of improving traction and stability on slippery roads.

Hybrid powertrain: More efficient electric drive

Current NX: The existing range offers several powertrain options, including hybrids, turbocharged petrol engines and plug-in hybrids, depending on the market.

2026 NX: Lexus has made more substantial changes to its hybrid system, including a new e-Axle that integrates the transaxle, electric motor and power control unit into a more compact package.

The inverter now uses lower-loss silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors, helping to improve power transmission efficiency and fuel economy.

Battery output has also been increased, giving the NX sharper responses when pulling away and during mid-range acceleration.

The 2026 NX will continue to offer different electrified powertrain options depending on the market.

If you prefer the current NX, there is still plenty to like. It is a mature luxury SUV with a proven package, and any discounts on the outgoing model could make it the more attractive option.
