GAC's Inpow Battery opens Thailand plant, rolls out first locally produced battery pack

Inpow Battery has officially opened its factory in Thailand, with the first power battery pack developed in-house rolling off the line on the same day.

As a battery technology and manufacturing subsidiary of GAC Group, Inpow Battery develops and produces both EV power batteries and energy storage batteries, with a focus on safety and intelligent manufacturing.

The company said it would continue working with industry partners to support the growth of the electric vehicle and new energy sectors across Southeast Asia, while bringing its manufacturing capabilities to more international markets.

The Thailand factory opening comes just two weeks after Inpow produced its 300,000th power battery pack on 15 October, marking another milestone for GAC's in-house battery business.

Inpow batteries are already used in several key AION models, including the AION i60, AION N60 and AION UT.

The 2027 AION i60 is among the models equipped with an Inpow battery. It has a claimed range of 700km.

GAC has invested RMB 10.9 billion (approximately RM 6.7 billion) in Inpow Battery, which develops and manufactures both EV batteries and energy storage systems.

Battery safety is a key focus for the company. Inpow says its cells have passed nail penetration, 360-degree twisting and extreme triple-folding tests without smoking, catching fire or exploding.

With production now under way in Thailand, Inpow is extending its manufacturing operations into Southeast Asia, putting it closer to a region where electric vehicle adoption and demand for energy storage are growing.
