GATE 2026: GWM showcases HEV line-up, Ora 5 HEV and Haval H7 Hi4 shown

At the ongoing 2026 Global Automotive & Tech Expo (2026 GATE), GWM Malaysia has showcased not one, but two upcoming models.

The first is the GWM Ora 5 HEV – a model that was first shown during KLIMS 2026, followed by a media preview earlier this month.

It is a B-segment SUV that’s positioned below the popular Haval H6 HEV, featuring a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), offering a combined system output of 223 PS and 476 Nm.

This powertrain combination allows the Ora 5 HEV to complete the century sprint in 7.7 seconds, whilst sipping just 4.4 L/100 km (22.7 km/l). When combined with its 55-litre fuel tank, GWM says that the Ora 5 HEV can return over 1,100 km per tank, under the WLTP cycle.

The second model is the upcoming Haval H7 Hi4. This left-hand drive (LHD) example is likely the same unit that was shown during June’s 2026 KLIMS.

Hi4 in the H7’s nameplate means that the H7 offers not one, but two electric motors – one on each axle. When combined with its turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, the Haval H7 offers a total system output of 370 PS and 750 Nm.

With the Haval H7 being a LHD example, it suggests that a local debut, while on the cards, may not happen so soon.

Upon the model’s arrival, it will square off the equally boxy Jetour T2. For the Haval H7 Hi4 to have a proper fighting chance, GWM Malaysia would need to locally-assemble (CKD) the model here. For reference, the Jetour T2 is priced from RM 156,800 for the 2.0T iWD variant, while the upcoming T2 i-DM (PHEV) carries an estimated price of RM 168,888.
