Geely is planning to pilot its solid-state battery technology in 2027, marking another step towards longer-range EVs.
The battery could deliver more than 1,000 km of range on a single charge, and its technology could eventually make its way across the wider Geely ecosystem – including Proton.

The connection between Geely and Proton goes back to 2017, when Geely Holding acquired a 49.9% stake in the Malaysian carmaker. Since then, Geely's technology and platforms have featured in Proton models such as the X70, X50 and X90.

That makes Geely's push into solid-state batteries particularly interesting for Proton. The technology is expected to be introduced across the wider Geely ecosystem, with Proton, Geely, Zeekr, Volvo, Polestar, Lotus and smart among the brands set to benefit.
There is still no word on when the technology could reach a Proton production model, but the potential is there for future Proton EVs to use the same battery technology.
Geely says its top-spec solid-state battery will reach an energy density of 500 Wh/kg, compared with around 250 Wh/kg for the cells in its current mass-produced Golden Brick liquid battery.

EVs using the new battery are expected to offer more than 1,000 km of range on a single charge, putting them on par with diesel cars for long-distance driving. Geely is also targeting a battery lifespan of up to 1 million kilometres.
Geely has already started real-world road testing of its solid-state battery this year. Pilot deployment for its brands is planned for 2027.
For Proton, this could eventually mean access to longer-range EVs and batteries designed to last longer.
