Geely has released the official images of the Xingyue L PLUS, confirming that the SUV will make its global debut on 5 September.
As an updated version of the Xingyue L, the new model retains the SUV’s familiar styling while introducing LiDAR-based driver assistance and a choice of petrol and hybrid powertrains.
The Xingyue L PLUS is not currently confirmed for the Malaysian market. However, its dimensions and positioning could make it relevant to local SUV buyers, particularly with a 2,900mm wheelbase that places it well above the Proton X70 in size.
Visually, the XingYue L PLUS largely retains the well-received design language of the current XingYue L.
A large vertical-slat grille dominates the front, flanked by slim headlights and extensive chrome detailing on the lower bumper.
The roof-mounted LiDAR sensor is the most significant visual change. It is expected to support Geely's G-ASD H5 intelligent driving system, adding more advanced driver-assistance functions to the Xingyue L PLUS.
The side profile features factory-fitted roof rails and retains conventional door handles for practical usability.
There is also chrome trim around the window line, door mirrors and lower body. According to regulatory filings in China, the SUV measures 4,955 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,769 mm tall, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, and offers 20-inch or 21-inch alloy wheel options.
For context, the Proton X70 is 4,532 mm long with a 2,670 mm wheelbase. The Xingyue L PLUS is therefore larger, giving it a different footprint and market positioning from Proton's existing C-segment SUV.
At the rear, the Xingyue L PLUS features a full-width tail light bar, while the revised bodywork adopts a softer and more rounded appearance.
The rear bumper continues the chrome treatment seen at the front, giving the SUV a more premium appearance.
The Xingyue L PLUS will be offered with both petrol and hybrid powertrains.
The petrol variant is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 213kW.
The hybrid variant combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid-specific engine producing 160kW with a three-speed DHT transmission.
The chassis specification is also more sophisticated, featuring double-wishbone front suspension, closed air springs and CDC adaptive damping.
The Xingyue L PLUS will be officially unveiled on 5 September, when Geely is expected to release further details on its specifications, powertrain line-up and pricing.
There is currently no official confirmation that Proton will adopt the Xingyue L PLUS for its own range. Nevertheless, the model is worth watching from a Malaysian perspective given the existing relationship between Proton and Geely, particularly in the SUV segment.
