Overview

The Chery Tiggo 7 C-DM is a plug-in hybrid C-segment SUV under Chery's Tiggo 7 lineup, officially launched on 1 November 2024. Powered by the Chery Kunpeng Super Hybrid C-DM system, it spearheads the Tiggo 7 range's transition into the new energy vehicle (NEV) space. Positioned as a plug-in hybrid compact SUV, the Tiggo 7 C-DM is available in three variants: "Chi", "Jin", and "Yu", with official retail prices ranging from RM119,900 to RM142,900.

Design Language

The Tiggo 7 C-DM introduces a brand-new design language. The front end sports an inverted trapezoidal grille flanked by split headlamp units, while the side profile features flush pop-out door handles and a floating roof design. At the rear, it gets full-width digital matrix LED taillights. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,545 mm in length, 1,898 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,672 mm. Four exterior colours are on offer: Cangyan Grey, Pearl White, Graphite Black, and Glacier Silver.

Inside, the Tiggo 7 C-DM features a dual-screen setup comprising a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a portrait-oriented 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, complemented by a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and an electronic column-mounted gear selector. The infotainment system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. The centre console houses a dedicated smartphone tray, dual cupholders, and physical switchgear.

Performance and Powertrain

Under the bonnet, the Tiggo 7 C-DM is powered by Chery's fifth-generation ACTECO 1.5TGDI hybrid-dedicated engine running on the Miller cycle, boasting an impressive thermal efficiency of 44.5%. The engine puts out 115 kW (156 PS) and 220 Nm of torque, paired with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor producing 150 kW (204 PS) and 310 Nm. Total system output stands at 265 kW and 530 Nm. Power is channelled through a single-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) . Top speed is rated at 180 km/h, while combined fuel consumption is as low as 1.27 L/100 km under WLTC standards.

Energy is stored in an 18.66 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CALB. It delivers an all-electric range of 120 km (CLTC) and 93 km (WLTC), with total combined range exceeding 1,300 km (WLTC). In depleted battery mode, fuel consumption is rated at 4.9 L/100 km (WLTC). For charging, it supports 45 kW DC fast charging, taking just 19 minutes to get from 30% to 80% SoC, while 6.6 kW AC charging achieves a full charge in 3 hours. The vehicle also features a 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply function. Fuel tank capacity is 60 litres.

Chassis and Dynamics

The Tiggo 7 C-DM rides on a chassis featuring front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension. It adopts a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. Braking duties are handled by ventilated discs up front and solid discs at the rear, paired with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold. It rolls on 235/50 R19 tyres. While the official minimum ground clearance is unstated, the maximum wading depth is rated at 500 mm, with an approach angle of 20° and a departure angle of 23°.

Cabin and Equipment

Across the range, the Tiggo 7 C-DM comes standard with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch portrait central touchscreen. The infotainment system runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and supports smartphone screen mirroring.

In terms of convenience and comfort, the SUV offers multi-colour ambient lighting, a 6-speaker audio system, and an electric sunshade. The seats are wrapped in leatherette upholstery. Boot capacity stands at 490 litres, expandable to 1,388 litres with the rear seats folded flat.

Safety and ADAS

For safety, the Tiggo 7 C-DM comes standard with a 540° panoramic parking camera system (featuring a transparent underfloor view). Passive safety includes front driver and passenger airbags among other essential equipment. On the active safety front, it is equipped with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), incorporating Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and more. The vehicle comes backed by a three-year or 100,000 km warranty.

Market Position and Summary

With an entry price of RM119,900, a CLTC EV range of 120 km, and a total combined range of over 1,300 km, the Tiggo 7 C-DM presents a compelling value proposition in the RM100k–RM150k PHEV SUV segment, going head-to-head against rivals like the BYD Song Pro DM-i and Geely Galaxy L7. During its initial launch in November 2024, buyers were offered perks such as a RM1,000 booking fee offset for RM7,000 off the purchase price, trade-in subsidies up to RM8,000, and a lifetime warranty covering both the vehicle and the high-voltage EV powertrain system. Overall, as the core PHEV offering in the Tiggo 7 family, the Chery Tiggo 7 C-DM delivers a strong and competitive package thanks to its Kunpeng Super Hybrid C-DM powertrain, 120 km pure electric range, and accessible pricing starting from RM119,900.
