LANDIAN E5 / LANDIAN E5 PLUS

2026-09-20 12:20:01

The LANDIAN E5 is the maiden plug-in hybrid (PHEV) mid-size SUV series launched by LANDIAN, a youthful new energy vehicle (NEV) marque under the Seres Group. Serving as Seres' primary spearhead in the mainstream RM100,000 to RM150,000 family car battleground, the series pioneered the ultra-competitive "RM100,000-class 7-seater PHEV SUV" segment. Backed by Seres' full-stack digital quality management system, the line-up has continuously evolved with strategic offerings like the third-generation LANDIAN E5 PLUS. With official retail prices strategically pegged between RM99,800 and RM151,900, it aims to undercut conventional joint-venture and domestic petrol-powered SUVs through a pragmatic formula of "generous cabin space, ultra-long pure electric range, and EV running costs lower than petrol".

Model Overview

The core ethos of the LANDIAN E5 series is that of a "segment-disrupting, practical family workhorse". Built with the generous footprint of a full-fledged mid-size SUV, the range offers flexible seating options in both 5-seater and 7-seater (2+3+2) layouts.

Styling-wise, the series has transitioned from its early "starlight dot-matrix E-emblem" grille to the latest generation's "minimalist enclosed borderless front fascia". Key selling points include a class-leading CLTC pure electric range of 165 km to 230 km, a robust chassis engineered under the Seres Quality Operation System (SQOS), an impressively low battery-depleted fuel economy of 5.4 L/100 km, and an industry-first cockpit on the third-gen model integrating ByteDance's Doubao AI large language model (LLM). Delivering exceptional value for money, the series caters to cost-conscious daily commuters and growing families in search of an economical, multi-passenger daily driver.

Development History

Brand Debut & Powertrain Integration (2023): In March 2023, the LANDIAN E5 was officially introduced as the brand's maiden offering. It initially adopted Fudi Power's dedicated hybrid system (DE-i), delivering an NEDC pure electric range of 110 km. With an attractive entry price around RM130,000, it spearheaded the mass-market adoption of affordable mid-size 7-seater hybrid SUVs.

"Cheaper than Petrol" Strategy (2024): Amid intensifying competition across the PHEV landscape, LANDIAN made an aggressive strategic pivot. In early 2024, the brand rolled out a promotional campaign that drove the entry price of mid-size PHEV SUVs down to RM99,800. This disruptive pricing made massive inroads into the territory of conventional RM100,000 petrol vehicles, keeping the model at the sharp end of hybrid SUV sales charts for several consecutive months.

Third-Gen PLUS Evolution & In-Car AI Integration (2025–2026): The series underwent a comprehensive generational upgrade with the arrival of the all-new third-generation LANDIAN E5 PLUS (including the latest 2026 line-up). Beyond adopting a clean, EV-inspired front fascia and a plush micro-suede soft-touch cabin, the pure electric range was extended up to 230 km. Crucially, it became the first in the RM120,000 bracket to deeply embed ByteDance's Doubao AI ecosystem, enabling voice-controlled short-video searches and curated in-car lifestyle modes, creating a standout competitive edge.

Market Performance

The LANDIAN E5 has carved out a distinct niche by capitalising on pragmatic buyer demands. In its home market, it takes on established heavyweights like the BYD Song Pro DM-i, Geely Galaxy L7, and Jetour Shanhai series. It specifically targets budget-conscious buyers with a strict RM100,000 to RM130,000 ceiling who demand a spacious 7-seater layout, extended EV range, and ultra-low running costs—ranging from pragmatic family buyers to e-hailing operators. Benefiting from Seres' stringent quality control standards, the vehicle's proven mechanical reliability has garnered strong customer retention across regional markets.

Core Technologies

Using the flagship third-generation LANDIAN E5 PLUS as the benchmark, the LANDIAN E5 incorporates Seres' core engineering strengths in electric drive systems, packaging efficiency, and connected software:

Dimensions & "Mobile Living Room" Packaging: The SUV measures 4,760 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,710 mm tall, with a 2,785 mm wheelbase and an effective interior cabin length of 3,144 mm. The front seats recline up to 165°, and with the second and third rows folded completely flat, boot depth extends to 1,860 mm with a maximum cargo volume of 1,432 litres. Capitalising on this cavernous space, the brand offers bespoke lifestyle kits configured as a "bedroom, lounge, or mobile theatre", playfully dubbed by automotive circles as the "ultimate hotpot on wheels". Underneath, the chassis employs a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link independent rear setup.

High-Capacity Battery & Efficient Hybrid Powertrain:

230 km Extended EV Range: Top-spec variants feature a high-capacity lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery delivering an impressive CLTC pure electric range of up to 230 km (with entry variants offering 120 km to 165 km)—nearly double to triple that of entry-level rivals, substantially cutting down on weekly charging frequency.

High-Output Electric Drive & Low Fuel Consumption: Powered by a 1.5L dedicated hybrid engine (95 PS) coupled with a front-mounted electric motor producing 160 kW and 330 Nm of torque, it completes the 0–50 km/h sprint in just 2.9 seconds. Even under depleted battery states with a full payload, the WLTC combined fuel consumption is kept down to around 5.4 L/100 km, offering a total combined driving range between 1,150 km and 1,300 km on a full tank and charge.

Doubao AI Smart Cockpit: The interior receives a cohesive, monochromatic layout with a soft-touch micro-suede dashboard. Taking centre stage is a floating HD infotainment touchscreen integrated with ByteDance's Doubao AI ecosystem. It stands as the only model in its class capable of direct short-video searching and streaming via natural voice prompts, allowing occupants to request travel guides or cooking tutorials on Douyin/TikTok on the fly.

Comprehensive Active Safety Suite: Built to Seres' SQOS digital quality standards, the vehicle features an extensive suite of active and passive safety systems. Higher-spec trims are fully equipped with five key advanced driver assistance features, including Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Safe Exit Warning (SEW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Rear Collision Warning (RCW), paired with a 360-degree HD panoramic camera system to eliminate blind spots.

Future Plans

As mainstream family NEVs shift towards embedded generative AI and ubiquitous high-voltage DC fast charging, the LANDIAN E5 roadmap focuses on: further enhancing the self-learning semantic capabilities of the Doubao AI model across in-car office, family entertainment, and navigation scenarios; exploring export opportunities for right-hand drive (RHD) and overseas-tailored variants to bring its high-value, fuel-efficient formula to emerging markets across Southeast Asia and Central Asia; and expanding its portfolio of factory-approved lifestyle and camping accessories to solidify its dominant presence in the RM100,000-class 7-seater hybrid market.
