MG MAXUS 7

2026-10-02 15:50:01

Model Overview

The MG MAXUS 7 is the second all-electric MPV introduced in Thailand by SAIC Motor's MG brand. Positioned as a D-segment all-electric family MPV featuring a 2+2+3 seven-seater layout, it is tailored to meet the daily mobility needs of larger families. The model is essentially a badge-engineered export version of the SAIC Maxus Dajia 7 (marketed as the Maxus Dajia 7 or Maxus MIFA 7 in China), assembled locally at the Thailand facility by SAIC-CP, a joint venture between SAIC Motor and Charoen Pokphand Group.

MG earmarked Thailand as a key market for the MAXUS 7 as the local MPV segment has long been dominated by Japanese stalwarts such as the Toyota Alphard and Toyota Innova, positioning the MG MAXUS 7 as a more cost-effective all-electric alternative. The vehicle made its public debut at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show in 2024, officially launching at 1,769,000 Thai Baht (approx. RM378,400). Serving as a crucial pillar in SAIC Motor's global brand synergy strategy, the MG MAXUS 7 joins the MG MAXUS 9 to form MG's electric MPV lineup across Southeast Asia.

Design Language

The MG MAXUS 7 adopts MG's signature global EV design language, characterised by clean, futuristic lines. The front fascia sports a closed-off grille-less design flanked by automatic LED headlights and LED daytime running lights (DRLs), complemented by full-width LED taillights at the rear for a commanding presence. In profile, the body features a boxy silhouette with dual powered sliding doors, flush pop-out door handles, and rear privacy glass that creates a sleek floating roof effect. It is also fitted with an integrated panoramic glass roof, 18-inch dual-tone aerodynamic alloy wheels wrapped in 225/55 R18 tyres, and a subtle rear roof spoiler.

In terms of dimensions, the MPV measures 4,907 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width, and 1,768 mm in height, with a 2,975 mm wheelbase, a fully-laden ground clearance of 145 mm, a 6.0-metre turning radius, and a kerb weight of around 2,160 kg. Its generous wheelbase, comparable to that of the Toyota Alphard (4,945 mm overall length), provides a solid foundation for interior cabin space.

Powertrain & Performance

For overseas markets, the MG MAXUS 7 is powered by a front-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous electric motor paired with a ternary lithium-ion battery pack, with cells supplied by SAIC Times. The motor produces a maximum output of 180 kW (around 245 PS) and a peak torque of 350 Nm, achieving a top speed of 180 km/h.

In terms of driving range, it delivers up to 570 km on the NEDC cycle and 480 km under WLTP standards. For charging, it supports DC fast charging, taking approximately 36 to 40 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% SoC, while 11 kW AC regular home charging takes around 8.5 hours for a full charge. It also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse charging functionality, supplying up to 6.6 kW via an external AC socket to power appliances and camping equipment. A 3-level adjustable regenerative braking system (High, Medium, Low) is available to optimise energy efficiency.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the chassis employs a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout with MacPherson strut independent front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension, striking a balance between load-carrying capability and rear passenger ride comfort. Braking is handled by ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear, complemented by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold.

Drivers can choose from three selectable drive modes—Standard, Eco, and Sport—tailoring powertrain response to suit different driving scenarios, from urban commuting to high-speed highway cruising.

Cabin & Features

Inside, the cabin features a dual-tone trim with extensive soft-touch materials, while the seats are upholstered in a combination of Nappa leather and synthetic leather. The dashboard is dominated by a dual-screen setup comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 automotive-grade chip with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Audio is delivered through an 8-speaker sound system, paired with a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel.

Seating configuration includes individual seats for the first two rows, with a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar support and a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. The second row features manual captain seats with armrests and dedicated dual USB charging ports, while the third row is a 3-seater bench. Passenger comfort is further enhanced by dual-zone automatic climate control, a PM 2.5 air purification system, and rear air-con vents. Other amenities include a wireless smartphone charger, a powered tailgate, and multi-colour ambient lighting.

Safety & ADAS

The MG MAXUS 7 comes equipped with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite comprising 25 active safety functions. Key driver assistance features include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC, operational from 0–180 km/h), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Door Opening Warning (DOW).

Passive safety equipment includes 6 airbags standard on higher variants (dual front, front side, and full-length side curtain airbags), a Full Space Frame high-strength safety cell, and an IP67-rated dust- and waterproof battery pack. A 360-degree surround-view camera is also standard to assist with tight low-speed parking manoeuvres.

Market Performance & Outlook

Following the opening of bookings in Thailand in 2024, the MG MAXUS 7 secured approximately 1,500 orders within a short period. In late 2025, the MAXUS 7, alongside flagship EV stablemates like the MAXUS 9 and Cyberster, collected 950 orders during the Thailand Motor Expo. The introduction of this model fills a vital niche in Thailand’s all-electric 7-seater MPV segment, widely regarded by local media as a key driver in bolstering MG's presence in the MPV market.

In China, its donor model, the SAIC Maxus Dajia 7, retails between RM125,900 and RM178,900, offered in both pure electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. Marketing the model overseas under the MG badge highlights SAIC Motor’s cross-brand export synergy, addressing MG's electrification transition and international market expansion alongside the MG4 Electric and MG ZS EV in its global new energy vehicle (NEV) portfolio.
