At the opening of the Chongqing Auto Show, the Changan Mazda N8 Pavilion booth had significant foot traffic. The booth theme was "Still Mazda", featuring a lineup including EZ-6, EZ-60, EZ-60 Mazda Edition, and the classic sports car MX-5. Against the backdrop of joint venture brands generally facing pressure, what Changan Mazda presented this time was not just a few cars, but a set of numbers and credentials that need close examination by the outside world.

The sales figure of the EZ-60 is the hardest backing for this booth. This mid-size SUV has taken the sales championship for joint venture new energy mid-size SUVs for 7 consecutive months. Competitors include not only other joint venture brands but also a batch of domestic models that have lowered prices and piled up configurations. Being able to hold for 7 months in this segment indicates that the product has stable acceptance among the target customer group. Paired with this figure is another set of data: in Q1 2026, the sales proportion of Changan Mazda new energy models has exceeded 47%, with the annual goal targeting 70%. For a joint venture car manufacturer, this proportion is not common.

Global certification is another card Changan Mazda emphasized repeatedly this time. EZ-6 and EZ-60 have currently obtained full vehicle certifications for the three major markets of the European Union, the UK, and Australia. The official claim is that this is the first joint venture new energy car company in China to obtain these three certifications simultaneously. EU vehicle certification involves multiple independent tests such as crash safety and electromagnetic compatibility, and cannot be passed solely by material declaration. Obtaining this qualification means the product has undergone substantive verification by a third-party institution. At the end of May, more than 80 overseas dealers from Europe, Australia, and Thailand flew specially to the Nanjing factory for on-site inspection, giving positive evaluations on craftsmanship and quality control. Dealers need to spend real money to stock up; the weight of such on-site inspection is different from the nature of a brand speaking for itself.

There is a detail at the auto show site worth mentioning separately. Mazda owner and racer Ji Hao told about his racing experience: driving an unmodified factory-spec pure electric EZ-60, participating in the China New Energy Vehicle Rally Championship, 6 days 910 kilometers, breaking through from 27 brands and 100 participating cars, winning the SUV group champion in circuit racing and the runner-up in total rally results. The premise of "unmodified factory-spec" determines the reference value of this achievement — it tests the vehicle's capability in its factory state, rather than the competitive level after modification.

In terms of design, EZ-6 won the "2026 World Car of the Year Design" award this year. It is the first Chinese joint venture new energy model to win this award, and also the third time Mazda has won this honor following the 2016 MX-5 and 2020 MAZDA3. EZ-60 has accumulated 8 top international design awards. The review institutions for such awards are independent of car companies, judges come from all over the world, and they have certain industry reference significance.

Regarding purchasing, the discount strength introduced by Changan Mazda during the 618 period is also at a relatively high level among same-level joint venture products. On top of the national trade-in subsidy (up to 20,000 yuan), an additional 17,000 yuan factory subsidy is stacked. Purchasing designated models also comes with a parts set valued at 7,999 yuan. There are also options for 0 down payment and 5-year low-interest financial policies, with an annual fee rate of 1.99%. The EZ-60 Mazda Edition Extended Range Version official guide price is 139,900 yuan, and the landing price is further lowered after stacking subsidies.

For joint venture brands transitioning to new energy, those who can simultaneously produce global certification, independent design awards, and unmodified mass-produced car race results backed by third parties are currently few and far between. Changan Mazda did not choose the path of chasing hotspots and stacking configurations, but chose to use a slower and more costly method to send quality to third-party verification. Whether this path works or not will gradually be answered by the upcoming sales data and export progress.
