Jaecoo continues its aggressive expansion in the Southeast Asian automotive market. Based on recent reports from the Indonesian automotive news outlet AutonetMagz, Jaecoo is expected to launch a new hybrid vehicle at the upcoming Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026.

Jaecoo's Growing Southeast Asian Portfolio

The anticipated reveal at GIIAS 2026 further solidifies Jaecoo’s regional presence. Currently, Jaecoo’s active global lineup includes the rugged J7 and the premium three-row J8, both of which are available in petrol and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants. Additionally, the brand introduced the Jaecoo J5 EV, which made its global debut at the Indonesia International Motor Show in February 2025.

Is the J5 HEV Next?

Specifications released in markets like the Philippines detail the J5 SHS-HEV, equipped with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain and a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). This configuration reportedly delivers 221 hp and 295 Nm of torque.

So, what exactly is Jaecoo bringing to the GIIAS show? All signs currently point to the highly anticipated Jaecoo J5 HEV. Recent spy shots out of China have revealed a J5 bearing a "Hybrid" badge, reportedly packing Chery's latest "Kun Peng 2.0" hybrid system.

J5 EV Launching in Malaysia Soon

While the potential hybrid launch is aimed at Indonesia, the Malaysian market is currently focused on the upcoming launch of the Jaecoo J5 EV. The B-segment SUV has officially arrived in Malaysia, following its launch in Singapore and Thailand earlier this year.

Based on the specifications already available in Indonesia, the J5 EV brings some solid numbers to the table. It utilizes a 58.9 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering a WLTP-rated range of roughly 400 km. Power is sent to the front wheels via an electric motor generating a very respectable 211 PS (155 kW) and 288 Nm of torque.

It also supports 130 kW DC fast charging that’s capable of juicing the battery from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes and features practical Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality for powering external appliances.

If you want to see how it measures up in person, you won't have to wait for the official launch. The Jaecoo J5 EV will be open for a public preview this Thursday, July 9th, at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre (Mid Valley Megamall) here in Kuala Lumpur.

Will the J5 EV shake up the local EV market, stay tuned as we bring you more updates.
