
Fresh spy shots of the upcoming AMA02 Proton Saga Cross have surfaced online, this time offering the clearest look yet at the crossover's interior.
These images were captured during road testing on the Karak Highway, the heavily camouflaged prototype appears to feature a dashboard layout similar to that of the upcoming Proton Saga facelift (AMA01), complete with what looks to be a shared digital instrument cluster, infotainment display and steering wheel.
While the camouflage conceals much of the cabin, the latest images suggest Proton could be standardising its dashboard design across the two models.

On the outside, the prototype also reveals a patterned front grille and relatively small alloy wheels. Unlike rivals such as the Perodua Ativa, Honda WR-V and Chery Tiggo Cross, the Saga Cross appears to adopt proportions closer to a raised hatchback rather than a conventional compact SUV.

The front fascia also appears to feature a split lighting arrangement, although it's still unclear whether the secondary lighting elements serve as daytime running lights (DRLs), fog lamps or both. Around the back, the roof spoiler bears some resemblance to the Proton X50 Sport Edition, while the tail lamps are expected to adopt a wider, horizontally oriented design.
According to industry sources, the AMA-based Saga Cross is expected to be offered with two powertrain options. The entry-level variants are rumoured to receive a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre i-GT four-cylinder engine producing 120 PS and 150 Nm, paired with a CVT.

A flagship Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) variant is also said to be in the works, utilising Proton's recently showcased 1.5-litre Dedicated Hybrid Engine (DHE) and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), which made its Malaysian debut during the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026.

Production timelines remain unofficial, although reports suggest trial production could begin as early as August, ahead of mass production towards the end of October. Early prototypes are also said to be assembled at DRB-Hicom's Pekan facility before production shifts to Tanjung Malim.
A late-2026 debut should be on the cards. Watch this space.
