The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced the H series plates, which will be the last single-letter vehicle registration series to be issued in the country.
The series will open for bidding through JPJeBid on Malaysia Day, 16 September. Once this series is gone, JPJ says it will not introduce another single-letter registration series.

For drivers and number-plate collectors, the H series is a particularly significant one. If you miss this round, there will be no further single-letter series to bid for in Malaysia.
Bidding opens: 16 September 2026 (Wednesday)
Bidding closes: 20 September 2026 (Sunday)
Results announced: 21 September 2026 (Monday)
Numbers available: 1 to 9999
Where to bid: JPJeBid app or official website
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli revealed the H series during a media session in Kuala Lumpur last night.
He said the letter H also reflects the theme of Harmony associated with Hari Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations. More importantly, however, H will be the final single-letter series in JPJ's history.
"This is the last time the Road Transport Department will issue a single-letter series. After this, we will not introduce any more single-letter series."
That makes the H series particularly distinctive for number-plate enthusiasts and collectors.

One question that may come up is whether a single-letter H registration could be confused with existing taxi and public-transport plates. JPJ has clarified that the two are covered by different registration systems.
H vehicle registration:
The single-letter H falls under the special vehicle registration (NPI) series.
Taxi registration:
For taxis, the letter H is combined with a state registration code. A taxi registered in Perak, for example, uses HA. The two therefore have different formats and are governed by separate registration rules.

JPJ also announced a new feature for JPJeBid.
Under the new system, registration numbers that were successfully bid for but were not assigned to a vehicle within the required six- to twelve-month period will be taken back and put up for bidding again.
This means numbers that were previously sold but never used will eventually return to the JPJeBid pool, giving other bidders another chance to go after them.
For H series bidders, the important date to remember is 16 September, when bidding opens. With this also being the final single-letter series from JPJ, the H numbers are likely to attract plenty of interest from collectors.
