Tesla Roadster open for reservations in Malaysia – and no, that RM 1 million isn't the car price!

Tesla Malaysia has quietly added a reservation page for its flagship sports car, the Tesla Roadster. But before anyone gets too excited, the millions of ringgit shown on the website are not the car's prices — they're reservation payments.

Reservation fees for each version

The Malaysian website lists three versions, each with different reservation requirements:

  • Performance: RM 203,000 in total, comprising an initial payment of RM 21,000 and a remaining RM 182,000 due within 10 days.
  • Thrust: RM 1,009,000 in total, including the Performance specification and an additional thruster package.
  • Rocket: Available by invitation only, with a full flight system.

Pricing not confirmed

The key point is that these figures are reservation payments, not the final prices of the cars. Tesla has yet to announce official pricing for the new Roadster.

Both the Performance and Thrust versions are listed as two-seaters, with active aerodynamics and a multi-mode fan & ground sealing system.

Some netizens have joked that the combination of features sounds like a cross between a giant vacuum cleaner and a rocket. Others have wondered whether the Rocket version might literally take off while driving on Malaysian roads.

With the reservation payment alone enough to buy a property in Malaysia, would you be willing to put more than RM 1 million down just to secure an order?
